Myrran

Basic Information

Anatomy

Myrrans are a species that look a bit like slugs with there gelatinous bodies, but they have a protective shell on the outside. It moves thanks to the half of their body which touches the ground and which have muscles specially dedicated to this function althought their specificity limits the speed of their movement. Two pseudopodia were present in the middle of their abdomen that looked like sorts of disarticulated arms and are vestiges of their original form. At the end of their body was their V-shaped head to which were attached three antennas with two upwards and one downwards.

Finally, the mouth was visible at the end of this so-called V, three long tentacles were attached to it, the ends of which were intended to be immense sensory sensors and a means of communication thanks to the sounds that their friction produced. Indeed, coupled with their antennas which had the same particularity, these two means allowed them to emit vibrations which is used for them to communicate with their congeners in addition of their bioluminescence and slight sounds coming from their jaws.

Genetics and Reproduction

The reproduction of myrrans is oviparous with eggs that are laid by one of the two partners. Indeed, the myrrans are hermaphrodite and during reproduction, the two individuals adopt one or the other of the biological genera. The gestation period before laying the egg lasts for two weeks. The two parents exchange custody of the eggs after the laying of dozens of them produced by one of the partners during the one month that the gestation lasts in them. The eggs then hatch to give a dozen young which will be larvae until they grow to the stage of childhood.

Growth Rate & Stages

The myrrans remain in the larval state for the first and second years until they reach infancy as said before. This period stretches from the third year to the eighth year with adolescence from the ninth year to the fifteenth year. Finally, adulthood from the sixteenth year until the end of their natural life expectancy which is 28 years including the peak of their growth is at the age of 20 years. The modern technology has of course extended this limit to about one hundred years.

Ecology and Habitats

The ideal environment for myrrans are the dense and humid tropical forests as well as the marshes which are their main ecological niches. They are originally from the Byren continent which is the wettest continent on their home planet.

Dietary Needs and Habits

In the natural state, the diet of myrrans is mainly herbivorous since it consumes the leaves or algae of the marshes from which it originates. Their passage to the civilizational stage made them adopt a more omnivorous diet with the hunting of small insects, but they still retain a herbivorous predominance today.

Additional Information

Social Structure

A common factor is that the myrran attach great importance to the four great corporations which govern each part of the myrran space even if the social structures vary from planet to planet because of the great independence left to them. The planetary leaders are under the direction of the four large corporations althought they are masters of their internal politics which tend to make the Myrran society much more capitalist and diverse than that of the Republic. Another particularity which is also very widespread is the control of births to control the increase of the population because of the high number of children per childbirth that can very quickly lead to problems of overpopulation.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The myrran are for the great majority concentrated within the Myrran Trade Union because this one being the political organization which represents them within the galaxy and is also the fruit of their expansion within it.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Myrrans have a particularly developed sense of touch thanks to their tentacles which serve as sensory detectors. Their shell on their back is also extremely resistant and allows them to withstand the shocks they can undergo. Their front abdomen is however their big weak point because their shell does not cover this part.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

For the myrrans, the first name is made up of two parts separated by an apostrophe, same thing for the last name. The first and last name are separated by a space like human names. The composition of surnames and first names vary according to the family, the continent of origin, the name given by the parents or even their home planets.

Major Organizations

The major organization of the myrran is the Myrran Trade Union whose capital is the home planet of these, this organizations is the result of the expansion of myrrans in the galaxy since the discovery of the wormhole network. It is this organization that represents and defends the myrran interests within the galaxy, it is also one of the galaxy's medium power which allows the myrrans to have a moderate influence on galactic geopolitics.

Average Technological Level

The myrrans is approximately on the same technological level as most other entities in the galaxy. Having developed several key technologies in the field of genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, nano-robotics as well as the mastery of supra-luminal travel. All these advances have made it possible to increase life expectancy, facilitate space transport and many other benefits for the population as well as the economy.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

There is a great diversity of dialects within the Myrran Trade Union, there are about ten which are major and which are used by the government. However, the Union government must not name any language as official to avoid overshadowing the others.

History

The myrrans are originally invertebrate organisms that feed on the sap of small trees in swamps native to the swamps of the Byrenian continent on their homeworld of Eicaro. To break the bark of the trees which developed thicker ones to counter the myrrans, these become larger and equip themselves with a shell on their back to protect themselves from their own predators. A myrran subspecies will transform its stomach over time to be able to digest foliage which provides a much greater caloric intake. This subspecies will give birth to modern myrrans with the rest of the myrrans having extinct out or merged with the main subspecies.

The myrrans will slowly continuing on this path and begin to rise from the ground so they can access more food by adopting an evolution that makes them lift their pectoral region. The limbs that made them previously move on the ground will merge to form the three pseudopods that will be used by them to catch more foods to help them more in their survival. This will also be used to communicate with each other by rubbing them for better cooperation. Their new means of communication will pave the way for assistance between several individuals which will allow them to catch bigger branches.

They will also start to hunt smaller animals to allow them to support themselves with the first tools made of wood. They will very quickly learn to control fire thanks to the higher concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere. Agriculture is quickly understood by the myrrans who will grow trees to feed on their leaves. Their history followed a normal course following this with the discovery of more and more technologies, the development of complex societies, kingdoms and later countries which made the war until their planetary unification. They will gradually expand into their home system from there with the discovery of their version of the Star Drive and in the galaxy following the construction of their first gate a little bit later.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The myrrans have cordial relations with most of the other species. Having a weakness in the military field because of their morphology, the myrrans had to find allies very quickly to face their enemies which makes them generally try to have cordial relations with the other species. However, they could not avoid the rivalry with the Qravadox Directorate because of different territorials and, later, with the Kingdom of the Houses of Youndarim when they signed a treaty of military cooperation with the Qravadox Empire.

Like the idea of an intelligent space faring slug species. Makes a change from the usual we so much of. Also, a wee quickie here, in the Genetics & Reproduction it's hermaphrodite, not the ermaphrodite. Thought I'd let you know. Has happened to me too leaving out letters, lol.

Oh thank you so much to for pointing out the error, I will correct it as soon as possible. One of my primary goals of my world when I designed it was to make a wide variety of alien species, glad you noticed that.

Easily done, have done the same myself, haha. Variety the spice of life, and all, lol.

I think their capitalist social structure is really interesting. I also like how you gave them a wide variety of languages and dialects, as that would naturally happen for a group that becomes so spread out.

Thank you! Indeed, the main goal of creating this species was to make them very decentralized and diverse in opposition to my other nations that are more centralized.
