Artificial Gravity
Discovery
Thanks to the development of more powerful reactors for ships with the nuclear fusion, which gives access to a greater amount of onboard energy. A partnership between several private companies has succeeded in developing particularly powerful capacitors using anti-solitons and solitons which will be assembled in metal plates and paired to create a field imitating standard gravity.
Utility
This technology is used to establish a gravity equivalent to that of the standard one within ships or small to medium space stations when it's possible. The energy expenditure is however too high beyond a certain size so mechanical processes based on centrifugal force are used. Rotating underground cylinders are widely used for low gravity habitats while space stations often have a design allowing rotation on itself for the bigger ones especially when they need to sustain long term human presence. She's also used to prevent the crew from feeling most of the thrusts as well as deceleration of the vessel and protect people on board from space radiation. Here too, although the fields are always activated for radiation, artificial gravity is often diminished at subliminic speed outside of the burn phases since the construction of the vessels is made perpendicular to the thrust vectors. It should also be noted that the other species of the galaxy also use this system to create their own artificial gravity in their ships or stations.
Manufacturing
The technology consist of two main systems, the first being the central unit, powered by the reactor, which controls the entire system. The second being the field generators which are placed all over the ship and create gravity. The equipment necessary for the implementation of this technology is manufactured by several private companies specialized or not in this field.
Social Impact
The main impact of this technology on the population was that it made space travel much more accessible by removing most of the discomforts associated with it. This will drastically increase space trade and immigration to colonies, whether during Confederation or throughout the history of the Republic.
Access & Availability
The technology is now accessible to any business, individual or level of government that wants it and is considered in the public domain. Indeed, since this technology is essential to anyone who would like to avoid long-term damage from lack of gravity, it has not been patented.
