In between the time skip from Days of future past and the events of X-men apocalypse. MCU only had the meeting part if not it'd be a disaster.

Gretal didn't want to see her sisters yet, so she got a job at Stark Industries after a few drinks, she goes out to see the fireworks for new year, that period is usually when Xavier searches for new students.   She feels him penetrating her mind and she closes it off from him, suspicious and tried to follow the source only for her walls to be removed a bit for him to come find her.   Charles has never seen anything like her in cerebro, so went to investigate, they became close friends after she saw what he was trying to achieve and let him see her memories but not in great detail, not wanting to hurt him with her trauma, which he became fond of. She stayed for a while, travelling to work and returning home easily but she went on vacation for a while, during apocalypse which she did not help them for due to the magical block and her time away from technology.
