Snarsisian Traditional Fashion

Traditional Snarsisian Fashion is often worn by Snarsisians , especially when they are living on Snarsis and surrounded by Snarsisian culture. Even Snarsisian expats living away from the home planet, will often wear traditional aboveground fashion as it is built to protect them from sunlight.

Traditional styles include both the clothing they wear in their subterranean cities as well as the clothing they wear when they need to go aboveground and need more sun protection. There are also some modernized and Coalition influenced versions, often worn by Snarsisians living away from the species’ homeplanet.

Clothing

Base layer

The typical Snarsisian outfit is made up of a simple tunic and close fitting capris or shorts. If warmer clothing is needed, the tunic may have longer sleeves and the pants may be full length. A belt or sash is often worn at the waist.

Outer layer

For outer layers there are two categories to consider, outerwear worn underground that is made more for warmth and formality and then outerwear worn when above ground made for sun protection and skin coverage.

Subterranean outwear tends to be much flashier including layering elements with the baselayer, and typically take the form of jackets or robes. These can be minimally or heavily decorated depending on how utilitarian it needs to be.

Aboveround outerwear tends to be a bit more intense, with its purpose being to cover as much skin as possible so that the wearer will not get sunburnt. These layers tend to involve a lot more cloak, hood, and shawl like elements with it most commonly being a large robe that covers the body followed by a deep hood or headwrap that protects the head and face. A wrap may also be used to cover the face if the hood is not deep.

Shoes

It is typical for Snarsisians to go barefoot in their underground cities, really only needing shoes when going above ground. Traditionally these forms of aboveground footwear were leather shoes that protected the feet from burning on the hot ground. Modernly, mass produced footwear similar to those worn on other coalition planets are popular, especially for expat communities.

Headgear

Horn Headdress

For traditional formal wear it is common for women to wear a saddle shaped headdress made out of a single length of fabric wrapped and folded into the shape. The shape mimics the eye stalks of the Bonrat Slug which look quite horn-like in appearance.

These headdresses are worn with subterranean clothing, in which case they tend to be a bit simpler in construction and more like a hat that can easily be taken on and off. There are also above ground variants which tend to be a bit bulkier with more draping, as it is typically worn so that the hood or headscarf of the wearer takes on the shape of the headdress underneath.

These are often worn by the elite as well as by the commoners as part of their formal wear, and can be heavily decorated with embroidery and jewelry by the wearer.

Jewelry

Snarsisian jewelry commonly consists of metal and stone accessories, often crafted to produce jingling sounds that announce the wearer's presence. Bracelets and earrings are common for Snarsisian subterranean formal wear, with dangling jewelry pieces also being worn over hoods and cloaks for formal aboveground wear.

Ear spacers are common in some regions and cities, and nose rings are also common in some places typically being seen as feminine and worn almost exclusively by women.
