Donorian Traditional Fashion

Traditional Donorian fashion varies across the planet, based on the biome and the culture the wearer finds themselves in, but clothing from the Gamto Basin region -where the planet’s capital is located- is the dominant style. Despite traditional fashion still persisting on the planet, modern materials and methods of production are often used in lieu of traditional methods and materials.

Traditional fashion, especially the more elaborate versions, is still commonly worn for formal wear and for cultural events. Simple versions may still be worn as everyday wear, as are modernized versions of traditional styles, but they tend to forgo more of the impractical elements such as heavy jewelry and platform shoes.

Clothing

Base layer

A traditional Donorian outfit consists of at minimum a shirt that fastens at the side of the chest, and a set of trousers or a skirt which may be created through wrapping -a more traditional method- or through sewing. A close fitting halter like top is often worn as an undergarment, especially by women, but it also may be worn by itself as a tanktop.

A thick belt or wrap of some sort is often worn around the waist to secure the clothing close to the body as well as providing a place to tuck small items and tools. These wraps are also often used to make the silhouette look more rectangular.

Outer layer

The outer layers of Donorian clothing, typically only worn during cold weather or for formal clothing, include a variety of jackets, robes, and vests built similarly to shirts with a fastener at the side. Those worn for formal wear are typically made out of more decorative materials, with wider longer sleeves while those worn for more practical purposes like warmth are made out of thicker less showy materials and fit closer to the body.

The most common form of Donorian outerwear is a short jacket with long sleeves, typically worn as a wind breaker on slightly chilly days or to protect against rain or other weather. In some cases a larger robe or jacket may be worn over the base layer to create a dress-like look; in the outfits the base layer shirt is a halter top like garment so the wearer will not overheat.

Shoes

Traditionally, sandals are the most common form of footwear, especially in regions that don’t get snowfall. Oftentimes in traditional footwear the sole of formal and elite footwear is a platform -sometimes tall and elaborate carved- that raises the wearer above any muck and grime. Modernly, simpler mass made shoes like sneakers and ballet flats are more commonly seen.

Headgear

Headbands

A Headband like headpiece or wrap is often worn across the top of the forehead, where a Donorian’s head tendrils meet with the scalp, with it typically being made out of fabric or leather and decorated simply for everyday wear.

For formal wear, there may be additional decorative elements like dangling tassels and ornaments and many formal versions are made out of metal and are more like jewelry pieces used to show off.

One notable variation of this headgear is the Donorian Wedding crown, worn by people during their marriage ceremony.

Jewelry

Donorian Jewelry such as bangles, anklets, chandelier earrings, and decorative headbands are commonly worn for formal wear. This formal jewelry is often made out of metal and includes colorful gems, glass, and enamel.

Simpler, more practical jewelry may be worn for everyday wear. These everyday versions tend to be made of cheaper materials and are less elaborate with fewer pendants and detail on average.
