Donorian Spirituality
Donorian spirituality, and philosophy in general, is very focused on harmony. This includes harmony with nature, social harmony, and maintaining that harmony with proper behavior and rituals.
There are a variety of different religious and spiritual frameworks on Donora but many of them share similar traits such as the focus on harmony, all things having spiritual energy. There are also common practices such as meditation and reflection with the goal of higher understanding.
Spiritual leaders are typically elders or those considered to have a higher understanding of harmony and the universe. They typically have done a lot of meditation and reflection, which some believe has helped them reach a state of spiritual enlightenment.
Modernly, most of the philosophical aspects are still practiced -especially the idea of maintaining harmony and achieving an enlightened state- with the worship of individual spirits and deities being somewhat less common.
Beliefs
Afterlife & Soul Dualism
Many donorian religions hold the belief that a person has multiple souls in their body, one soul which goes on to a plane of higher existence and enlightenment after death and a second soul that stays around with the body after death.
The first soul becomes an omniscient spiritual being, liberated from mortal woes after death. Once a person dies this soul leaves the body and the mortal plane of existence, because of this there are some traditions that revolve around assisting the soul of the dead to move on to this state.
The second soul stays with the body and if the soul is unhappy it may cause supernatural events. A lot of Donorian funerary traditions revolve around keeping this part of the soul happy so that it will not cause misfortune as a restless spirit. It is typically believed that the souls of the regretful or vengeful are more likely to become these sorts of restless spirits.
Spiritual Energy, Fortune & Harmony with Nature
There is a common belief on Donora that all things -some groups believe only living things other include non-living things- have some sort of spiritual energy or soul, in some areas including animistic belief where everything has a spirit or god attached. This has led to a common interest in nonviolence, ecology, and sustainability in donorian culture with many seeing it as a spiritual duty.
This is often coupled with the idea of fortune, with certain behaviors and rituals believed to bring good fortune or bad fortune to a person. Typically things like destroying nature or disrespecting a spirit are believed to bring misfortune, while things like giving offerings to spirits, venerating nature, or performing annual rituals are believed to build up good fortune. There are also particular symbols and items that are considered to bring good or bad fortune.
Practices
Meditation & Reflection
It is commonly believed on Donora that those who meditate and reflect on spiritual teachings will be able to live a life of greater clarity and harmony. This meditation and reflection is often done in isolation, particularly in open spaces or a place of nature. The goal of these practices is typically to gain greater understanding of the universe and harmony and attain a type of spiritual enlightenment.
Meditation may include the use of mantras and spiritual scripture which will be reflected upon while meditating. These mantras and meditation techniques may also be used to pacify or banish restless spirits.
