Volatilist

In the Department of Biocatalytic Energetics, Volatilist turn volatile mixtures into battlefield control. These artificers master the art of grenadic dispersal and support elixirs, launching chemical warfare while boosting allies with tailored potions.

(3rd Level)

Field Chemist

You gain proficiency with alchemist’s supplies and martial thrown weapons. You can create Alchemical Grenades and Support Elixirs using these supplies.

  • Grenade Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.
  • Range: 30 ft. Thrown weapon (no attack roll unless specified).
  • You can prepare a number of concoctions per long rest equal to your Intelligence modifier + proficiency bonus.

Recharges: You can regain concoctions equal to your Intelligence modifier during a short rest by spending 1 hour and expending 25gp per concoction.

Support Elixirs

You can craft a number of Support Elixirs per day as above. Choose from the list when creating them — no randomness.

Elixir Options:

  • Stimulant – Target gains +10 movement speed and advantage on Dexterity saving throws for 1 hour.
  • Coagulant – Target regains 2d4 + Int temp HP; at 10th level this includes resistance to necrotic & poison for 1 hour.
  • Clearbreath – Target gains immunity to smoke, gas, or noxious vapors for 10 minutes.
  • Lucidity – Target gains advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma checks for 10 minutes.
  • Ironroot – Target has advantage vs being shoved or grappled for 10 minutes.

Grenade Formula

You also learn to craft Grenades. Choose 2 options from the list below. You can prepare others by swapping known formulas on long rest.

Grenade Options

  • Flashburst – Creatures in a 10-ft radius make a Constitution save or be blinded until the end of their next turn.
  • Volatile Fire – 2d6 fire damage in a 10-ft radius (Dex save halves).
  • Freezer Bomb – 10-ft radius, creatures make a Strength save or have speed halved until end of next turn; constructs take disadvantage on the save.
  • Choking Cloud – Creates a 10-ft radius gas cloud that causes disadvantage on attack rolls and concentration checks for 1 round.

(6th Level)

Catalytic Fuse

When you throw a grenade or administer an elixir, you may immediately trigger a Catalytic Reaction:

  • Chain Reaction – If a grenade damages at least one creature, you can throw a second grenade as part of the same action (once per turn).
  • Fast Injection – You can administer a Support Elixir as a bonus action (once per turn).
  • Smoke Veil – Throwing a grenade or elixir creates half-cover for allies within 5 ft until the start of your next turn.

You also learn one additional grenade and elixir formula.

Modular Grenade Pack

You craft an infusion-only item called the Modular Grenade Pack:

  • Grants +2 AC while wearing it (no attunement required).
  • Can hold 3 concoctions or grenades.
  • Once per short rest, you can launch a concoction 60 ft as a bonus action.

(10th Level)

Rapid Elixir Deployment

You may now store up to two elixirs in the Contingency Flask, a custom infusion:

  • Choose a trigger (ally drops below 50% HP, stunned, etc.).
  • When the trigger is met, one elixir is automatically administered (no action required).
  • Recharge after long rest.

You also learn one new grenade and one new elixir.

(14th Level)

Master Chemist

  • Dual Mixture Delivery – Once per turn, when you use your action to throw a grenade or administer an elixir, you may deliver a second concoction of the same type to a second target or location within 10 feet of the first.
  • Alchemical Charge – Once per short rest, you may empower a concoction:
  • Grenade: Add 2d6 damage and impose disadvantage on the save.
  • Elixir: Doubles duration and adds temp HP equal to your Intelligence modifier.
