Venom Warden
"Beauty without mercy is a lie."
Venom Wardens blend precise marksmanship, survivalist instinct, and deadly alchemy. Their poison-tipped strikes punish the weak and the overconfident. Whether silently stalking prey or brewing toxins from the fallen, these rangers are the embodiment of nature’s cruel edge.
(Level 3) – Poisoner’s Gift
You gain the following benefits:
- Poisoner’s Kit Expertise. You gain proficiency with the poisoner’s kit. If already proficient, you instead gain expertise.
- Venomcrafting. During a short rest, you can craft a number of poison doses equal to your proficiency bonus (doubled if you have expertise). Crafting requires 25 gp per dose. Poisons expire after 24 hours or after use.
- Swift Application. You can coat a weapon or piece of ammunition in poison as a bonus action. The poison lasts for 1 minute or until it hits. You ignore poison resistance.
- Toxic Strike. When a poisoned weapon hits, the target must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, it takes 2d8 poison damage and is poisoned until the end of your next turn.
Precision Mark Integration: If the target is affected by your Precision Mark, it has disadvantage on the saving throw against Toxic Strike.
(Level 6) – Tracker's Cunning
You blend wilderness instinct with chemical finesse:
- You gain proficiency in Nature or Survival. If already proficient, you gain expertise.
- You can cast Hunter’s Mark and Detect Poison and Disease once per long rest without using a spell slot or material components.
- You can use Precision Mark on a target even if it is behind half or three-quarters cover.
- You can now apply poison to two arrows at once when making an attack with Volley Expert, provided you have enough doses.
(Level 10) – Cunning Artisan
You learn to harvest death and turn it into a weapon:
- When you complete a short rest after slaying a beast, monstrosity, plant, or dragon of Small size or larger, you may use a dagger or artisan’s tools (leatherworker’s or poisoner’s kit) to harvest:
- 1d4 contact poison doses (if the creature was venomous),
- Or craft a shield, club, javelin, or 1d4 darts or blowgun needles.
- Toxic Strike damage increases to 3d8.
- If the target fails its save by 5 or more, it is blinded until the end of your next turn.
- You gain resistance to poison damage.
(Level 14) – Silent Arrow, Sleeping Death
You master the fatal art of the unseen kill:
- When you hit a surprised or poisoned creature with a ranged weapon attack, you may force it to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + Dexterity modifier).
On a failed save:
- The creature is paralyzed until the end of your next turn.
- If its current hit points are less than half its maximum, you may choose to render it unconscious instead.
You may use this feature once per long rest, or spend 2 uses of Precision Mark to use it again.
