Scholar of Chronology
The Black Dragon Tower hoards time like gold. Its Scholars study the flow of causality the way others study alchemy or geometry. Chronology isn’t prophecy, it’s intervention, a brutal precision discipline. As a Scholar of Chronology, you bend the laws of cause and effect, accelerate your will, and collapse timelines that displease you.
Your training requires neural mapping by the Tower’s Temporal Engine and induction into the Order of the Coil, whose motto is: “Delay is Dominion.”
(3rd Level)
Temporal Remainder
You learn to momentarily fracture time.
- When you cast a spell using a page, you can choose to delay its effect until the end of your next turn.
- The spell’s cost is halved, but its effect gains +1d8 force damage (or +2 to the DC, your choice).
- You can delay only one spell at a time in this way.
Additionally, you learn the delay cantrip, unique to Black Dragon Tower initiates:
Delay
Evocation cantrip
Range: 30 ft. | Target: One creature
The target must succeed on a Constitution save or take 1d6 force damage and have their next reaction delayed by 1 round (they can’t take reactions until after their next turn).
Damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 at 11th, and 4d6 at 17th.
Empowered Magic: Temporal Weight
Once per turn, when you cast a chronomancy or time-altering spell:
- Aging Lash: If your effect deals damage or forces a save, you may impose one level of exhaustion for 1 minute on a failed Con save (once per target per long rest).
- Stasis Ripples: You can slow one creature’s movement by half until the start of your next turn.
- Clockstep Echo: You may teleport 5 feet immediately before or after the spell resolves. This does not provoke opportunity attacks.
(6th Level)
Entropic Bank
You can store fragments of unused time.
- Whenever a creature within 30 feet takes the Ready action or uses Legendary Resistance, you may use your reaction to gain 1 Temporal Charge (max = Int mod).
- As a bonus action, you may spend a charge to:
- Regain an expended 1st-level page
- Move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks
- Force a creature to reroll initiative (they must take the new result)
(10th Level)
Loopbreaker
Your control over collapsed timelines becomes formidable.
- Once per long rest, you can force a reroll of any d20 roll made within 60 feet, after seeing the result.
- If the reroll is worse for the target, they also take 3d10 force damage as reality resists.
- If the reroll is better, the next attack against them is made with advantage.
You also gain:
- Resistance to force damage
- You always act during a surprise round, even if surprised.
(14th Level)
Chronal Authority
Your presence anchors and warps the battlefield.
- When you cast a spell of 3rd level or higher, choose one effect:
- Stasis Field (15 ft radius centered on you): enemies move as if through difficult terrain until the end of your next turn.
- Slipstream: an ally within 30 feet gains +10 movement speed and can take the Dash action as a reaction.
- Backstep: instantly teleport to a position you occupied last turn (must be within 60 feet).
Once per long rest you may cast time stop without expending a page or components.
