Unraveling Deciland

Unraveling Deciland is the dismal crown jewel atop the harsh and nigh impassible Woedrakk Desert. There, the ground is a burned and brackish black and the air is stagnant and astringent. The rocks are obsidian and jagged, sharp enough to sever a finger with a casual slip of the hand, and taller than even the most impressive wizard's tower. There beasts, so warped and mutated that they no longer need food or air to survive, use arcane intelligence to ambush one another and bring a swift end to any mortal that would walk through the land. There one can find ruins, foundations, scaffolds, baffles, and countless dried lakes and riverbeds. There the only vegetation that can survive are the poisonous or magically harmful scrubs and blights that pox-mark the land in sporadic patches. There, magic itself breaks down for anything that doesn't call that rakishly audacious place home. Needless to say, Deciland is dreadful.   How did it get like this?    Tnnilians, justifiable so, will tell you before anyone else. With great passion and ancestral rage they will spin the tail of their once-great empire. An empire that expanded from the Western Gild Wald all the way down Geneca to the top of the Woedrakk (known to Tnnilians as the Davos Mrra [Sea of Sand]) and utterly dominated the northwest with its scale, wealth, and power.    Tnnil was an empire before the Dematalyst, and it stayed an empire throughout the Dematalyst-- one of only three places in the world to do so (Emryth & Cheerymore being the other two). Tnnil stood strong and proud like a fortress against a mighty storm in the first years. But what they could not anticipate were the dragons.   The Blue Thunder of Woedrakk is a cabal of blue dragons that have created their own society across the Woedrakk. Woedrakk, as hinted before, was not the original name of the desert to Tnnilians or Genecians. Rather Woedrakk was the founder of The Blue Thunder and was so successful and powerful that the entire region became named after him. This dragon still lives today, and Woedrakk the Cyanotic Scream has proven why an entire section of the world is named in his fear.     The dragons, in their way, demanded considerable tribute from the surrounding lands. This meant Tnnil to the north and the then-small hub of Eris-Iris far to the south. The dragons imposed a steep and degrading tax for the people of Geneca. This was something that the E-Irisians did complacently and willingly-- knowing how terribly unmatched they would be against lightning-spewing dragons. Tnnil was also willing, at first. But as the years increased the dragons demanded more and more from both sides until finally, with most of their famed purplesilk "taxed" by the dragons, the Tnnilians finally refused to serve the dragons.    This broke the contract the Tnnilians made with The Blue Thunder. In retaliation, Woedrakk along with no less than 50 other blue dragons of various ages, embarked on the world's first Dragonflight. In the scale of Sonneranian tragedies, few things can come close to the The Blue Thunder Dragonflight. During the event, Woedrakk and the other blue dragons committed to a 100% no-tolerance decimation plan. With lightning breath, draconic spellcasting, and Woedrakk's own personal destructive magic items the swarm created modern day Deciland as it's known today. And where Deciland sits today is where half of the Tnnilian Empire used to be located.    The effects of this attack, besides the horrendous and unforgivable amount of destruction, death, and erasure, were that Western Tnnil broke off from the Empire and Eris-Iris fully fell into its role of expanding the influence of the nation of Geneca. The Tand is an island located only 20 miles off the Woedrakk Desert's Western coastline, there it is populated by the Dragonborn-- and the considerable influence of Woedrakk ensures both ample tribute from the island as well as a blue dragonborn holding the seat of power at any given time.    Those who lost their lives in the Dragonflight, their pets, their plants, their furniture-- that is what roams Deciland today. The dragons are endlessly entertained by this and typically send wyrmlings to Deciland in order to hone their combat prowess. Genecian Dragoons share this tradition and go to Decliand in order to "exorcise" portions of it. Tnnilians have constructed a stunningly reinforced and magical border along the altered zone-- but have since signed a peace treaty with the Woedrakk Dragons.     Deciland represents the future Sonnerand could hold should avarice play a deciding role in international and interbeastial communication.
