Law of Equivalent Vitality

Life and death operate on a conveyer-belt shaped like a mobius strip.   Life and death also embody the two most silently powerful magic processes in Sonnerand-- birth and dying. Unlike the wave of a wand or the casting of a fireball, this is magic that carries no visible effect, nor is it magic that even affects the prominent Arcanomatrix to a significant degree. Instead, birth and dying are two of the only events that cause the third and fifth layer of magic, Universal Entropy and The Divine Gate, respectively, to interact.   Births trigger the Universal Entropy-- or rather, it adds to it. Births are, therefore, felt most strongly in the plane of negative energy-- simply due to the energy consumption a life requires. Conversely, deaths are felt in the plane of positive energy and allow the Divine Gate to open. Divine gate access in one-way, with departed souls slipping through the Divine Gate and going to whatever infinite awaits them. The loss of an energy consumer replenishes a portion of the Universal Entropy (but it is always at a net loss).   Reincarnation is only possible through (currently) extremely rare magic or the principles of a certain god or ideal manifesting past the Divine Gate. This is a process that doesn't augment the natural order of the world-- because a "new" life is essentially conjuring forth from an "old" life (even if the soul is the same).   This is not true in revivification, necromancy, and resurrection. These processes follow the same principles listed above; however, when it comes time for the Divine Gate to open, the magic acts like a sort of siphon and forcibly pulls the soul from the fifth layer. This has the effect of bringing back trace amounts of energy from the Divine Gate and compounding the energy-generating effects of death-- essentially charging returned souls with huge amounts of positive energy.    This sounds like a good thing on paper. But just like how a magnet's polar ends are drawn together, positive and negative energy pulls towards each other. Returned souls, being charged with positive energy, "magnetically" draw in negative energy.    Arcanotheorists believe that this is what caused The Wen. Too big of a pocket of positive energy created an equally big effect negatively-- and in the case of The Wen this meant that over 5 million individuals instantly lost their lives.    For a single person, this isn't too big of a concern. Yet, resurrected individuals need to face a reality that they are beings of positivity. Of course this doesn't mean they're going to act or behave positively, just that these individuals are magically charged. There are fringe cases, however, of individuals returning to life a handful of times and increasingly losing aspects of their personality or morals. But this could also be just a result of dying over and over.
