The Government of Patriam

Although cities have their own management, the central government is responsible for major decisions across the island. The Patrian government also contains the supercourt, the court one level above city courts. The main body of the government only meets thrice per week, since most matters are handled by companies or cities. That being said every three years there are elections for senatorial seats as well as the consulship. There are always two consuls serving at any one time. A consul has the power to veto, propose, or defect, legislation in agreement with the other consul.

History

The Patrian government was created in the year 200 when the two groups of humans got together at founders point for two years and created to government.

Demography and Population

Patriam has a total population of 8 million. The birth rate is about 10 births per 1000 population, and the death rate is about 8 deaths per 1000 population, for a growth rate of 2% per year. 56% of the population live in urban centers.

The Patrian government controls the whole main island, Patriam.

Education

Many people attend local schools in their towns from the time they are eight to the time they are fifteen. From there many children chose to go to an academy. A degree from an academy takes five years to get, and a student can only get two degrees in one, five year span. Academies are government sponsored institutions.

Infrastructure

The Patrian government has spent much on maintaining and expanding the railway system across Patriam. The government also gives out money to individual cities and towns to help pave stone roads, fix wells, seawalls, dams, etc.

The official currency of Solus Mari is the Decema, which is the seed of the fruit of the Decemitus plant. The Decemitus is a highly poisonous plant related to the apricot. It's seeds are about the size of almonds and are grown only in government farms. Seeds are marked at nearby marking mills, so that they are difficult to forge. Growing Decemitus plants on your own is highly illegal. Other denominations of the decema are the Triodecema, worth three decema, the quodecema, worth four decema, the duodecema, worth twelve decema, and the Seniodecema, worth sixty decema. (for comparison 1 decema is ~ 1.666 USD)
Legislative Body
The senate is a body composed of forty-seven freely elected members, five members from every major city, five more from the chamber of the common, and two aldermen representing Findo and Latus Locus. They meet three times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, at the founding stone on the border of the two provinces. There they discus issues, present solutions, and vote on policy.
Judicial Body
The courts are unified across Patriam, and each major city has a court. Their are two levels of courts, city courts and the supercourt. The supercourt is located by the founding stone, and is presided over by three freely elected judges. Cases rarely go to the supercourt, most disputes are settled in regular city courts.
