Objective

Exploring the Dwarvern Ruins #3

Observations

  • Another interactions with the Kenkus' who have a skull on their hip. They offered a gift, and once we took it, they left at pace and never looked back. We did not take the items back after a warning from Virgil, and left it. They seem to be friendly, but there intentions are unknown....

  •
  • Within the Dwarvern ruins, behind the left door, there is a river (rapids) that flows very quickly. According to the smaller barrel "Porter" it leads to back its "home", and it must go to deliver a message. He said it takes a "few days" to get there. Porter informed us of an entrance near the bridge (near the entrance to the ruins).

  •
  • Tavvok release "Timothy", originally an owl and now a crab, into the river, so it can make contact with the dwarves.

  •

      Bridge:

  • (RIGHT OF THE ENTRNCE TO THE TEMPLE) there is some sort of tunnel entrance, but it's small entrance. Potentially too small for

  •
  • LEFT OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE TEMPLE - there is another entrance but it's 150 feet away... much larger.

  •   - It's a 35-foot drop from the bridge to the first ledge
      - then it slopes down another 35 feet as you walk down the ledge
      - then it's a straight drop about a 20-foot climb down.

The entrance if 10 to 15 feet wide entrance
      - this isn't a natural cave
      - it's almost like it was a formal tunnel that was severed when this chasm was created.

We make our way down the tunnel for a few hours. We come across a pool of water that has algae that is glowing bright purple, and seems to be generating darkness. Throwing in a ration, it dissolved and seemed to be consumed to produce darkness.

From the darkness in the pool, a large monstrosity appeared -- smelled like sulfur; gurgling and flame from it's mouth/belly. It seemed to spew out demons and monsters... spit out 4 large gorillas that bled red sand, and 2 flying demons... It was over 35 feet long, could launch across the room, and was able to inflict massive damage, while also summoning creatures...

A straight up fight will not end well. We got away, but lost someone important in the process.

In the end, the legend that was "Cpl. Tavvok Tilson" died protecting his friends.
May he be with his god, and his family.

    Follow up

I do not believe we can fight this monstrosity in a normal fight. We will need to find a way to destroy or kill it.

    Operation Details

    TAVVOK finally gets a sleep!

Aceso spent the night at the outpost with a person of interest, that needed to survive -- so they could be sent to the king.

They all arrive back the output.

  • Seems that Timothy (originally an owl) is not a snow crab.

  •

Seems the scouts are now wary of us.

  • we walk for 3.5 hours; getting close

  •
  • pulling a little south and we go west

  •

This area sees more rugged... as the sunken coast seems to even affect this far out

Notice something... a silhouette following behind the party

  • not a deer or a human

  •
  • going tree to tree

  •   - some small black avian creatures
      - black robe
      - a kenku?
      - Virgil said that something bad happened with them before
      - Virgil thinks it's a spy

Aceso calls out - "Hello Friend"

  • parrots his words

  •
  • "you help friend"

  •

Brief scurry - peaks out from the side
      - skull on its left hip

Pulls out a black bag with a string

  • "help" - eventually figure out they want to give us a gift

  •   - accord to Virgil: they destroy inter-dimensional things.
      - gives me one with diamond dust inside.
      - walk away at pace, doesn't stop, never looks back.
      - this black bag is a hide... unnatural but dyed jet black

      pushed further south
      - off sound... ring of a sound... like thunder but higher pitched
      - inconsistent pops... not constant or getting louder
      - seems to be coming from the south.... general direction on Horsa.

Aceso hides the bag + diamonds in a tree. Obvious trees

  • sound continues to get louder as we get closer.

  •
  • then as we continue... we seem to move pass it

  •

      Not Horsa... further west

  • not as far south as the darkness.

  •

There are tons of corpses... near the cliff drop down to the

  • common place items -- seem to be refugees

  •
  • fleeing AITHELAR -- likely the ones who stayed behind

  •

      There are heavy boot prints:
      - in a fit of rage has ripped them out...
      - oddly wide footprints... likely a dwarf

Aceso makes his way down and puts in new Pitons and rope.

      Hear deep within

  • heavy blocks of metal connecting with the stone

  •
  • yelling... don't understand. Sounds elvish.

  •

Chill that goes through as he goes into the door
      - voices hush.... and then continues

Get closer to these two stone doors
      - were not closed before
      - draped with blood and painted across
      - looks like an incredible amount of blunt damage
      - something bored down on them with incredible weight.

  • get on Tavvok's soldiers

  •   - yelling on the other side
      - look through a crack

      - Our barrel friend is hung from the ceiling
      - Two creatures in boots... with a blood covered hat
      - poking the keg
      - trying to get liquid
      - holding two scythes

      - Tavvok instantly opens the door -- must help our friend!

Seems there are more than just 2 of them.
      - in the total we see there is 4.
      - massive boots; fury and rage in their eyes
      - weapons are FAR too large to them.

Odd sparkle of magic when they attack.

  • They can see to attack at distance... across the room

  •

Just the hat and boots are left... blood pools at his feet

  • seems that their blood can take over creatures.

  •
  • they are all tricky... teleporting to attack, using weapon attacks at range....

  •
  • they are all RAGING.

  •

Tavvok was completely taken over by the blood of two of these creatures.
Tavvok got free of it just before he attacks Aceso
Virgil also gets taken over, but Tavvok catches him in a net

Aceso "revivifies" our little barrel friend by pouring alcohol into him

  • he stirs, and says "more"

  •
  • pours more in saying heal

  •
  • Tavvok tries to help

  •

Some permanent damage... Tavvok ducks tape big pieces back on.

      Ask Porter what happened:

  • "they came... do you have more wine?"

  •
  • Ask about Stout

  •   - "I need more wine."

Porter's leg is not working anymore...

  • takes us to the right door

  •

      Sound of running water.

  • the pressure would change.

  •
  • there is broken boat.

  •
  • a deep and FAST running river

  •   - RAPIDS.... we likely wouldn't make it
      He Said:
      - the tunnels are flooded.... this will take us where we need to go... "down the slipstream"

      Porter:

  • Stout said if he is in trouble.... then the river would take them home...

  •
  • we let porter go.

  •
  • he yells "there is an entrance to the tunnel near the bridge…"

  •

We put the chain back on Timothy so he could talk.

  • this is the tunnel location to release him

  •

We head back to the bridge

We tie a rope to a column, and then down off the bridge (left side)
Then you walk along the edge
We then put another piton at the top of the wider area.
      Drop down about 20 feet

Goes in. Something seems to light in the distance.

  • as we approach, we see a large arch; with what seems like a brasier -- it's lit

  •   - did it light itself.

      Dwarvern writing:

  • the two clans

  •   - rust fire clan
      - rookcoth clan

  • fire is unnatural/magic; no kindling

  •

above the arch is a dwarvern message

  • come thee brother far and wide; travel these tunnels with safety.

  •

terrain is up and down; narrow or wide
      - but always descending down.
      - full darkness the entire way
      - sound of running water (water overhead)

      - We push on for an hour or hour and a half
      - the space opens up

      See in the distance...
      - we see a light from a torch but with no flame
      - torch in on a skeleton... lying on the floor
      - bones has no wounds / damage
      - this is a dwarvern skeleton
      - this torch -- dwarvern rune for fire carved into it.
      - Aceso takes it

Behind him is water... with a purple hue... glowing algae
      - cannot see what's inside the water

BUT there is darkness that seems to be eating the light...

Sgt Leeds throws a ration into the water
      - Suttle current
      - brushes up against a piece of algae... and dissolves into nothing
      - eaten by the shadow

This purple algae gives off a vibrant purple... and converts things into shadow

  • the light penetrates, and it seems to repulse the shadow

  •

See a mouth or gator comes out of the water.

  • gurgling and flame from its mouth/belly

  •
  • a giant crocodile like monstrosity

  •

      spits out 4 gorilla creatures...

  • smells like sulfur

  •
  • gorilla bleeds red sand...

  •

This giant creature hits harder than anything we've fought

  • 35 feet long.

  •
  • bites HARD.

  •
  • can launch itself across the road

  •

  • the giant then spit up 2 flying demons like creatures....

  •

In the end we had to retreat… and a friend died.

We see the feather friend from before.

  • The Kenku... offering a gift again.

  •
  • we decline and continue; does not pursue.

  •

In the end, the Legend that was "Cpl. Tavvok Tilson" died protecting his friends.
May he be within his god, and his family.
