Operation Details
Head to the Horsa outpost -- southwest of Moonwell
Commander Bradley (rough around the edges)
Don't stay in the Horsa camp overnight;
-> 25 gold to rent a horse.
All members are renting a horse, except Aceso.
Heading south 1 hour
make it to chasm, and cross the bridge
40 minutes later can see the moonwell through the trees
curve to the west;
10-15 minutes later, small hill incline
Horsa outpost comes into view
"About time" from one of soldiers at the entrance
looks are mixed, but all eyes are on us.
Bradley - limp forward; recent gash over over his right eye
VERY rough shape from last night.
Aceso healed him.
Bradley:
We need you more than I'd like to admit.
sometimes men attack, sometimes beasts, sometimes a mix of both
Not normal:
cut a mans head off, and it looks back up at you.
look at you, and you lose your will to live
A bit more engagement was expected from Fort Vegapath.
33 men have died; a few hundred of the enemy killed.
numerous and different; sometimes hard to tell what's the enemy and this place
while the enemy seems unnatural, they still require supplies.
Basically west to east:
Enemy camp <-> Horsa camp <-> ocean
block the river between the camp and enemy camp (priority)
1 mile and a half.
block the river between Horsa and the enemy camp (secondary -- if possible)
Two options:
Drill into the side cliff side, put them in, slight a long fuse, and blow it up.
Magician:
- Gob-Jim the Goblin
"BY THE STREGTH GIVERS WILL -- BOOM" (red hat, red robe Horsa seems to respect him.
Cart
4x Shovels, 4x Pickaxes, 4x Hand-drill (post digger)
15x explosives (4inch x 4 feet)
-----------------
Talked to Gob-Jim, and he wants payment for helping:
Gob-Jim lost the other gob-Jims thinks they are in the fey
One of the mission members mentioned a machine they might be able to either take him or help him find that machine.
- after this point the gob-Jim was adamant that he was going to help, and then they take him to the machine.
- gob-Jim jumps into cart, and waits.
Hear people in an argument:
"you two need to shut-up, we'll be fine"
argument picks back up; ear piercing screams.
make our way around without drawing attention
Cliffs seem to rise and fall.
Found one place closer to the camp that if exploded would block half the river
Found a second place that is a better place for explosives
- have two inlets from the ocean.
We were not the strongest group, but after 1 1/2 hours we dug 3x holes for the explosives.
That's when we saw two enemy shift approaching from the ocean.
An ogre and two men were present on the top of the ships.
One man teleported up to the cliff, but was knocked back down with a spell.
the ogre climbed to the top of the cliff
One other enemy disappeared
With the three charges placed in the cliff, we retreated, and gob-Jim used a fireball to set them off
this blocked off 1/2 the river (one of the two inlets)
The one ship had been pushed sideways against the land; blocking the ships from moving.
We retreated, and tried to make our way to the second cut-off point we had seen earlier.
- since we didn't know what forces were in that ship
At the other location, we setup pitons to drop down the cliff with rope.
With the river being much calmer, and lower (since 1/2 flow was blocked upstream), it exposed a groove where the water had cutting away the rock -- leaving a channel behind at the base of the cliffs above the river. In these channels we could lay 4 explosives.
After setting half of the explosives on the more eastern part of the cliff. Pim heard something in his head "not nice to run away".
All three members came up to the top to meet Aceso, but we didn't see anything enemies in the area. Aceso decided we should work fast to try to finish the setup, before the enemies arrive. Gob-Jim + Gollidur + Aceso stayed at the cart to protect it; Pim and Fruedek went to continue. They got one more set, before an enemy arrived. At this point there were set 2 on the eastern base of the cliff, and 1 on the more western part of the cliff.
There seemed to be one caster, and two other creatures that appeared once the fight began. These two "tongue" monsters would attach to whatever it hit, and caused it to be unable to move away.
The enemy caster was able to cast fireball, but Gob-Jim was able to stop one of the casts of an explosion with some sort of magic. The caster than attempted to create another explosion, and the cart and Gob-Jim were vaporized in the explosion (fireball + the extra explosives). Along with the horses as well.
As the battle waged, we eventually got the caster close to death(although his expression didn't change/no pain seen), and he teleported across the chasm onto a cliff on the other side of the river. We casted fireball on one of the explosives to try to collapse it while he was standing there, but it wasn't enough to collapse under him. He cast something on the ground where he stood, before he ran into the forest.
After the battle completed, we decided to quickly lay the explosives before we got out before more enemies could arrive. Aceso figured the best place would be to set the last explosive at the top of the cliff where the other two explosives sat at the base. The explosion on the more western cliff (during the battle) had made a ramp up to the top. Pim went to set the other charge on top of the cliff, and set off a magic trap that had been laid by the enemy caster. It seems to hold Pim in place, and slowly squish/squeeze him to death. After casting a few major spells to dispel the magic, Aceso was able to break him free. After the final charge was placed, the three charges were ignited using a fireball.
While the water wasn't completely stopped, it was now impossible for any ship to now sail down the river from the ocean to the enemy camp.
We made it back to the Horsa camp, and explained the situation. We paid almost double for their cart as compensation as a show of good fate. We then rested for a short period, before making our way back to camp.
