Objective

investigate the condition of the Underdark waystation and to reclaim it if possible.

Observations

. To any others attempting further investigation of the waystation, use extreme caution. The enemies are very stealthy and their cleric is quite powerful, and we have reason to believe that they can command, or at least communicate with, the lesser spiders. There are a few lanterns down there, but overall it is very difficult to see and possibly impossible without dark vision.   These enemies are more than capable of setting ambushes, and fight intelligently.

Follow up

Return back to the Waystation and destroy any webs that may remain before pushing forward.

Operation Details

We set out to investigate the condition of the Underdark waystation and to reclaim it if possible.   The descent was fairly uneventful, with the only danger being from the crystals on the walls. They apparently deal damage to one's mind and are corrosive to non-magical weapons, evidenced by the dissolving of most of Rurik's axe   Upon reaching the waystation, we found it mostly deserted, with only a lone spider in the barn. Despite our efforts, it was too elusive and escaped into the shadows.   After investigating the building, we found that the race of spider people had started to convert the waystation for their own use, including a barn for spiders as either mounts, food, pets, or all 3. They used the spider silk to patch holes in the building, as well as making a web road covering much of the eastern tunnel. While inside, we were surrounded by spiders, and upon exiting, were attacked by several swarms. Upon the defeat of these, several of the spider humanoids, including one enemy cleric, attacked us. Using the cover of the shadows and web, they were able to attack with great efficacy, and the casting of a fog cloud in an attempt to help by one of our party only helped then.   We still managed to escape, despite them focusing on me and bringing me down. In our flight, we did not have the opportunity to destroy the webs. Once we left the immediate area of the waystation, the enemies seemed content to let us go, suggesting that they are guardians of the place.   .   To any others attempting further investigation of the waystation, use extreme caution.
