Dwarves of Alaron 7: Demon Hunt

 

Objective

1. Find the cave to the Demon that killed Tavvok;
  2. Enter the cave;
  3. Kill the Demon;
  4. Walk out with everyone alive;
 
 

Observations

We made it to the area above the dwarves caves. We ran into a pack of Gnolls. One of the gnolls spoke Abyssal, which is really odd. Furthermore, gnolls are not native to Alaron. We ended up fighting the pack and killing them.
  We made it down to the entrance and into the cave. We followed the cave for a while and came to a point that seemed impassable. We baited and killed one creature that was swimming in the pool of water in front of a pillar that seemed block the way forward. We heard a yell from deeper in the cave and rushed to place explosives. We ended up sticking the explosive barrel to the pillar with a web. After a couple of misses, we managed to blow up the barrel.
  We moved forward to the next area that appeared to be the main area. After some minor searching the Demon/creature hopped out of the main pool of water in the middle of this section of the cave and started to attack. It ended up spitting out 25 or more creatures that attacked ravenously. The demon/creature was very strong, and absorbed a ton of punishment. In the end it took multiple massive hits from projectiles and a disintegrate spell to help bring the thing to a point where it was killed by the Eel.
  Upon its death, the creatures it spat out (as well as itself) erupted into a weird purple flame that none of us were truly invested in trying to understand. Making our way back out the cave and up the mountain, we found evidence that the gnoll bodies had been consumed by the same purple flame, suggesting that they had been spat out by the creature/demon as well.
  From there we made our way back to the fort with little to no trouble.
 
 
 

Follow up

Try to re-establish contact with the Dwarves through these routes again in the future.
 

Preparation Details

No specific preparation was accomplished by the ones going out.
  Ophelia handed out a spell gem that was not used and returned to her.
  Zorky handed us an explosive barrel that was used to clear the area.
 

Operation Details

Before we left, Zorky provided us with a map and an explosive barrel. We were introduced to the Eel. Lady Ophelia introduced herself more formally, and she handed out a spell gem. We teleported to the Northern Outpost. Ralla led the way to the dwarven ruins. We made it to the area above the dwarves caves. We ran into a pack of Gnolls. One of the gnolls spoke Abyssal, which is really odd. Furthermore, gnolls are not native to Alaron. The Eel and Ralla attempted to gain the trust of the Gnolls but seemed to realize they had no way to communicate. Weloh seeing thing potentially going bad decided to attack suddenly which Caelindriel and Dickens followed suit. We ended up fighting the pack and killing them. We secured a rope to the top in order to make coming back up to the top of the ledge easier.
  We all held on and Ralla cast Feather Fall on us for us to make a comfortable decent down to the cave entrance and into the cave. We followed the cave for a while and came to a point that seemed impassable. We baited and killed one creature that was swimming in the pool of water in front of a pillar that seemed block the way forward. The creature/demon was very smart in that it waited for us to come close to it and it almost managed to fully split us. For a short time, Ralla and Weloh were surrounded and cut off from Caelindriel and Dickens. The majority of the creatures that this demon/creature spat out were killed by a big spherical spell Caelindriel cast that the demon/creature shrugged off with seemingly no effect. The Eel was fully cut off, but was able to remain mostly undetected by any of the creatures. At the start of the fight it ended up spitting out 25 or more creatures that attacked ravenously and this where Ralla and Weloh were very nearly cut off, though they did manage to rejoin Dickens and Caelindriel. The demon resisted withstood and dodged some powerful spells from Caelindriel. The demon/creature was very strong, and absorbed a ton of punishment. In the end it took multiple massive hits from projectiles and a disintegrate spell to help bring the thing to a point where it was killed by the Eel. Dickens and Ralla assisted taking turns hitting the creature and healing both Caelindriel and Weloh when each respectively fell to the big demon/creature.
  Upon its death, the couple remaining creatures spat out (as well as the demon creature itself) erupted into a weird purple flame that none of us were truly invested in trying to understand. Making our way back out the cave and up the mountain, we found evidence that the gnoll bodies had been consumed by the same purple flame, suggesting that they had been spat out by the creature/demon as well.
  From there we made our way back to the fort with little to no trouble. Upon returning to the fort, Ophelia took back her spell gem from the Eel, which had not been used.
