Yael people

The Yael is the name of a people that once had their home on the colony of Shaa´Yael, a temperate, ocean world with small islands scattered all over the planet. The planet was colonised early in the human expansion into the Milky Way. On a map, one would be able to find it towards the core of the galaxy. While the original settlers were a diverse group, the majority of the settlers came from southern america.   The Yael people had a architecture that was in harmony with the surrounding nature, but this harmony would be destroyed in what among the Yael people is known as the Shattering, an until then unknown planetary crust shifted rapidly which lead to Volcanic eruptions, both over and under sea, both with catastrophic results for the surrounding ecosystems, the oceanic ecosystem collapsed and dusts and ash from the vulcanos turned even the brighest day into barely dusk levels of light. Due to the distance from other settled systems and the speed at which the Shattering took place, help arrived late, and only about 26% of the population managed to get offworld.   Today the people live a mostly nomadic lifestyle, drifting from system to system, picking up odd jobs here and there. a few planets have enclaves where Yaels have settled. Every five years, these nomadic fleets of Yael return to their home system and their dead are sent towards their old homeworld, burning up in its atmosphere.   There is a small movement that is slowly growing among the young Yael; they wish to find a new, similar world to settle, ending the nomadic phase of their people. Some of the older generations view this as a radical moment, and there are often discussions in the different councils when a young Yael brings up the topic.
