Solari’s Wake

Solari’s Wake is a harsh, twilight world where the sun never fully sets nor does it fully rise due to it being tidally locked to its sun.   One side is burning hot with nothing but scorching hot winds, sand and rock; the other side is a frozen hell. The only place where life has somehow made a living is in a belt around the world, where the two sides meet each other, a ring locked in perpetual dusk. Due to the limited space for settlement above ground, early on it was decided that heavy industry would be limited to space stations and the one moon that orbits the planet.   The planet was named after the expeditionary fleet that first discovered it, called the Solari expeditionary fleet, and due to Solari’s Wake being the first planet that could support a human population, it was named after the fleet.   The people of the planet are known by either "Solarians or Wakeborn", with the first option being more popular for outsiders to describe them. Likewise, the people have become experts in engineering, mining and survival-focused research, with Solari’s Wake being home to an extensive underground population that, since the settlement,has spread to large parts of the planet.   One would be able to identify a Solarian by their dialect, they speak in a clipped, rhythmic way with soft glottal stops, some say its a endoring dialect other find it very irritating to listen to for long periods of time.   One of the few native species that inhabit the cold side of the planet is named Glowleafs and they are typically found along geothermal fissures, they absorb the heat from these fissures and glow with a faint blue-green colour, the leafs can be harvestet and the oil from these are used to dye clothing and are a key ingredient in other industrial products. Another export of the planet is what locals refer to as Shadeglass. It forms when the intense light and heat of the sun hit the Terminator Line fusing certain volcanic minerals into a rare, black-transparent crystal. On the outside, it resembles Obsidian and is used for optics in warships.
