Tarquin Valdez
Lieutenant-Colonel, Mobile Infantry
Lieutenant-Colonel Tarquin Valdez, MI, is a senior officer within the 3rd Kuati Mobile Infantry Regiment, currently fighting in the Sleipner Sector as part of the wider Von Aurach Campaign.
Born into a lesser noble family, the young Tarquin was brought up with a sense of duty to the Imperium and so took himself a career as a Mobile Infantryman. As with all recruits, regardless of upbringing and background, Tarquin made it through the whittling at Boot Camp and it was during his active service, his sense of duty and inherent leadership began to manifest and so he was sent to Sanctuary to undergo Officer Training.
In his years as a supernumery Third Lieutenant, then Second Lieutenant, Valdez never shone like some of his other classmates and was seen as a middle-tier officer, but what made him stand out was the way he earned the respect of those he led- genuinely vested in their surival as much as anything else and, for that, his MI loved him and would follow him anywhere. It was this trait that brought him to the attention of the Commissariat and which would lead to his meteoric rise to where he is now.
Valdez seemed weak in the view of those more idealist, career driven Senior Officers and so he was to be paced under the judgement of the Commissars attached to the 3rd Regiment. To some, this would have landed with demotion to an Abhuman regiment or perhaps even a bolt shell in the skull, but Valdez was given to the legendary Colonel-Commissar Smith, who had different ideas to the other political officers. He saw the strength that lay within earning respect and how a loved leader could do just as well, if not better, than a fearmonger, so he took the then First Lieutenant under his tutelage and soon began unlocking the young officer's potential.
The uprising at the Durganian Hives saw Valdez soon gain a field promotion to Captain and company commander when heretic armour opened up on the Imperial command lines, then he led the evacuation of Mean Green and when it came time for the Colonel-Commissar to take up a more senior role within the Regiment, Valdez was his natural successor and given the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and position of Battalion Commander
