Codex Jermani

Considered the most important document in existence for the inhabitants of Regnitz, the Codex Jermani is the book that was penned when the generation ships set out from Terra to colonise the stars all those millenia ago.    As long as a descendant of the original travllers of the generation ship that colonised Rentiz exists, there have always been two copies of the Codex Jermani in existance- no more, no less. One copy will be the Hauptbuch - the version that is used by the Regnitzian people to settle disputes, seek wisdom, govern correctly and maintain important culteral events from their original home of Jermani. The other book is the reserve, kept in stasis, so when the utilised book is starting to wear and fade to illegibility, a pristien version can be used in its place.    During these occasions, the old text will be burnt during the related festival and a new reserve copy will be immediately written to be put in reserve once again

Purpose

When the colony ship was being made ready for their mission of colonisation by the people belonging to the old Terran kingdom of Jermani, the rulers and elders wanted to ensure that the colonists would never forget their origins and their people would live on, as they had done for centuries before, and their culture would not die. As such, they commissioned the great work known as the Codex Jermani. This tome was compiled to ensure the Jermanic people, culture and traditions would always be able to be passsed on through the generations, and this has continued even into the 42nd Millenium. From it the Regnitizian people get everything of their identity - their dialect of Imperial gothic (Hochgothick) ; all of their major cultural events and ceremonies derive from a list held within and so much more.

Historical Details

Public Reaction

The Regnitizian people hold this book in high honour, to the point it has its own honour guard, made up of the High King's finest troops, and only Regnitizans may read from it or touch it. This latter point was a major factor in the people's disdain for the Eccelsiarchy whose missonaries tried to have the book deemed heretical after their attempts to rewrite parts of the book, in line with the Ministorum's creed.
