The Red Knight

The tale of the red knight begins with the Duke of the black hollow in a time before the Duchies, the duke was a prosperous and kind leader who gave much back to his people. In the times after the death of Allowin huge magical beasts roamed the land so the Duke founded a group of knights to hunt them down and to protect his land and people, the leader of this group was known as the Red knight he was a the best knight of them all and became firm friends with the Duke. One day the knight was hunting a ferocious monster in the ruins of an ancient temple when he stumbled across a old rusted sword that called to him, after slaying the beast he returned to collect the sword and took it back with him to the castle of black hollow. He polished up the sword and revealed underneath the grime and rust a fabulous blade with blood red gems on the hilt. The knight kept the sword with him at all times and wore it more and more until he was sleeping with it in beside him, the legend goes that the sword spoke to the knight and wormed its way into his mind. The Duke of Black hollow had a very beautiful wife, some said that she came from the darkness of the Brekka forest but the Duke didn't care, she was loved by many and since she had arrived the land had been more prosperous than ever. The stories say that the Red knight became obsessed with the wife of the duke and began to plan how to take her from the Duke, he had planned to sneak into the castle and kidnap the wife whilst the Duke was out hunting. What he did not know was that the Duke had returned early from his hunt and was in the main chamber with his wife. When the knight burst in to take the wife the unarmored duke tried to stop him but was run through by the knight, before the knight could be taken she changed suddenly before the knight. The once beautiful woman became a horrific image with black pits for eyes, the blood of the duke on the floor and in his veins dried up as she cursed the knight.   The knight did not know what had happened but was still obsessed with the woman so he took her back to the ruined city where he found the sword. They stayed there for some time whilst the wife formulated a plan to escape, once she did the knight chased her across the Duchies to the lake of Oars rest. Here he cornered her above the lake and rather than be taken the wife threw herself into to depths of the lake and was never seen again. The red knight was seen multiple times by the people of the area, he is seen riding a great black horse roaming the area looking for something, on occasion the knight will appear to help villages or people fend off monsters and beasts but will then retreat to his home in the ruins in the mountains. In the area around the black hollow there has been other events, people dying or disappearing, some say this is the vengeful ghost of either the wife or the lord of Black hollow.
