December '07

An experimental game, where the players played the animal companions and familiars of a normal adventuring party. The one session was played in December 2007.

Setting

The game took place entirely within the city of Trenderth, capital of Erion. It began and ended in a secret Euchtonite temple beneath the streets. Much of the action took place on the streets and in the Dragonroast Tavern.

Summary of Events

Background

An adventuring party of Erion, hereafter called the PCs, had uncovered a massive Euchtonite conversion effort, in a backwoods village. The PCs arrived too late, and about half the village committed ritual suicide, completing an unholy ritual that summoned two undead: a skeletal reaper, and a six-foot-long undead cat fetus. These undead and the Euchtonite high priest were defeated by the PCs.   In the aftermath, the PCs found indications that a number of the troubles besetting Erion could be traced back to a hidden Euchtonite temple under the streets of Trenderth. There is also a plot being hatched there to kill the governor. After interrogating a surviving cultist, who had acted as a messenger, they were confident of the temple's location, and so, after resting up in the village, they teleported directly to the building that concealed its entrance.   After some brief scouting, the PCs assaulted the temple. It quickly became apparent the Euchtonites were ready for the PCs' attack -- they were warned by some magical device that detects magical travel. While moving through the temple, the PCs were taken down one by one by the cultists and some sort of devil. Finally, the last PC was cornered in a room that had an exit to the sewers. He told the animal companions of the party, who were still with him, to go get help, while he held the cultists off.
