Corundum Throne

The Corundum Throne is a position held by an individual in the Dominion of Kra. Oral histories say that the ancestors of giantkin determined who would rule by tests of strength and courage. In modern times, when the current holder of the Corundum Throne dies, a tournament is held among their heirs and any qualifying citizens of Kra who wish to participate. It is technically possible for someone not of giantkin origin to take the throne; while some have competed historically, none have to date.   The Corundum Sovereign's position is largely a title of prestige with limited administrative functions. They are responsible for mediating conflicts between regions, as well as acting as the diplomatic representative to Malthu and Eimrand. They are paid a small tribute annually by each community in the Dominion, but do not issue other taxes or laws. Those are negotiated amongst the individual communities in the Dominion, though the Sovereign does mediate these discussions as needs arise and can provide a decisive vote if parties are deadlocked. The Sovereign spends most of their time doing diplomatic and publicity tours across the continent and hosting foreign guests.
