Port Vale Marina

The population of Vale Marina is mostly elven (55%) and sintian¹ (31%). Humans and dwarves make up most of the remainder of the population. While there are demonkin permanent residents, they usually have professions outside of the public eye so as to not scare travelers².   1 - Sintians are magic-bionic humanoids that are unique to the world of Sierra Minor.   2 - The common preconception of demonkin is that their ancestry corrupts them and that they are likely to be hostile. As such, they are feared by the other sapient populations.

Vale Marina has the workings of a city-state, though it is much smaller in size. The innkeepers and traders who permanently made their home in the city pay taxes which go to the maintenance of roads, local defense forces and the local medical guild.

There are military barracks in the center of the city, but it is not easily recognisable as a military structure so as to not disturb the travelers.

Many inns are located near the beach to temporarily house travelers who seek rest and relaxation. Taverns serving local dishes are also popular with these travelers. They also buy various trinkets of the Vale Marina to take home with them when they are ready to leave.

In the Northwest of Vale Marina is a comfortable beach, but the immediate North of Vale Marina is a large harbor. Frigates and galleons travel to and from the other islands in the Selex Atoll to transport supplies and various goods.     In the East of the city, there is a popular Naval Museum with multiple exhibits on seafaring and the deepsea. The museum also displays a peculiar item which is said to be the scale of a great deepsea serpent.   The roads of Vale Marina are well maintained in the north of the city, but they are getting worn down in the south where travelers usually don't go as much.

The owner of the Raised Blade, the largest and most successful of the 70 inns, is an elf called Farion Alder. He normally speaks with the mayor of Vale Marina on behalf of the guildmasters of the city.   Another notable inn is the Gallant Heron, which is owned by a sintian named Samuel Solivio. Solivio is Farion's greatest business competitor and rival.   The head of Vale Marina city council is an elf called Darron Varona. He seems to have a distrust for anything mechanical or technical.   The commander of the Vale Marina military is a demonkin called Rog Malhaine. He is responsible for the safety of the city. That includes defending against attacks from outside the city, but also acting as city guards. Rog is fascinated by airships and has a collection of model airships.   The guildmaster of the medical guild is an elf called Tara Brecenil. She is responsible for all medically skilled people in Vale Marina. She has been completely desensitized to the sight of death, bloodshed and bodily harm. Some wonder if she has any emotions left at all.

Vale Marina is located on the summer island of Selex Atoll. The climate ranges from pleasant warmth in winter to downright hot in summer. The ocean water around the Selex Atoll is suitable for swimming throughout the year.   The beach of Port Vale Marina has a very limited amount of palm trees, but there is not much nature within the civilised area except for carefully potted plants and large sections of maintained grass and shrubbery outside of the beach area.   In the evenings, large groups of harmless Starshell Crabs can be found on the southernmost part of the Vale Marina beach. Starshell Crab sauté is a local delicacy and those with a knack for cooking can make their own delectable meals using the meat of caught Starshell Crabs.   In spring and fall, small to medium-sized groups of whales usually travel nearby the Selex Islands on the route of their oceanic migration. Those who are perceptive (or simply know where to look) can sometimes see groups of trekking whales from the shore of the Vale Marina beach.
