Champions and Blue Soulstones – The Divine Deviants

Champions and Blue Soulstones

“Where belief and blood entwine, the divine stirs.”

The Concept of Champions

In the architecture of this world’s metaphysical order, Champions are anomalies—beings who resonate so deeply with a particular virtue or divine frequency that the soulstone within them changes hue, turning blue. This is not merely cosmetic; it signifies a categorical departure from the soul’s mortal rhythm. These individuals are no longer simply humans—they are Chosen.

But chosen by what?

That is the question that torments scholars and comforts zealots.

Some say they are chosen by the lost gods—manifestations of archetypal forces seeking vessels. Others believe they are manifestations of the world’s will itself, forming agents of balance or rupture in times of great need. A few whisper they are cosmic errors—accidents that Heaven and Hell both failed to foresee.

Regardless of origin, Champions are universally feared, venerated, or weaponized.

The Burden of Virtue

Each Champion is linked to a specific Virtue—Justice, Wisdom, Mercy, Vengeance, Sacrifice, etc.—but the interpretation of that virtue is left to the Champion. This is the divine gamble.

One Champion of Justice may protect the innocent.
Another may become an executioner of “justice” as they alone define it.

The soulstone amplifies their beliefs until the line between self and ideal disappears.

Divine Feedback

When a Champion acts in alignment with their Virtue, their power increases. When they act against it—even in small ways—they suffer. This may manifest as fever, hallucination, internal bleeding, or more abstract curses: their memories fade, their voice falters, their reflection lies.

Champions are not allowed contradiction.
They are their Virtue—or they are ruined by it.

Known Champions

There are rarely more than seven active Champions in the world at any given time. Too many, and reality itself begins to ripple. In some ages, none appear. In others, three may rise at once, their destinies colliding in tragedy or cataclysm.

These individuals become walking myth.
Wars are started over them.
Religions formed in their wake.
Assassins sent to end them before ascension.

Blue Soulstones and the Divine Ladder

Most chillingly, blue soulstones are seen as the first rung on the Divine Ladder—the path toward godhood. This is why so many die young. Once you glow, you are a target. Not all the gods are ready for company.

And some Champions don't stop climbing.
