Turunai

The turunai are a humanoid species that developed in the inky seas of Tirsei VII's largest moon, Turunai'itxa'. Their cold, remote moon was largely ignored by the Ma'ur, and as a result, the turunai remained uninfluenced by the Imperium's culture. This allowed them to build an interplanetary civilization called the Gormu Tyranny based in the outer region of the Tirsei system.   Turunai use methane as their biological solvent rather than water. As such, they are comfortable in extremely cold, oxygen poor environments. To survive at standard temperatures, they must wear exosuits or use Xa'an to insulate themselves against the heat.   They use electron transfer to move, meaning that extreme cold does not slow their cellular processes.   Heat Intolerance: native to a moon with an average temperature of -179 Celsius, turunai cannot survive in normal biological temperatures as the liquid methane that flows through them would evaporate if their body temperature rose to -164.   Flammable: As methanogenic lifeforms, turunai are extremely flammable in oxygen (a rare element on their homeworld). Outside of an exosuit, they have a -4 to resist fire and take eight additional damage from any fire attacks in oxygenated environments (the fire must penetrate the exosuit, if one is being worn).   Hydrogen Breathers: Turunai respiration is based on turning inhaled H2 into methane using acetylene. Consequently, they cannot breathe standard atmosphere and must use a breath mask, an exosuit, or Xa'an techniques to survive. Without such protections, turunai must hold their breath.   Alien Biology: Turunai biology is so different that anyone without special familiarity with their anatomy will suffer a -4 to healing rolls made on them. This penalty does not apply to turunai, of course. On the flipside, Turunai suffer a -4 to healing rolls made on other species unless they have received special training.   Semi-aquatic: Turunai start with a d6 in swimming, and their pace when swimming is equal to their swim skill. They can hold their breath for fifteen minutes before needing to make any checks.   Unsettling: Other species must make a fear save or be unnerved by the cold aura and eyeless faces of the turunai. Turunai have -2 charisma when interacting with other species as a result.   Immunity: The bizarre biology of the turunai makes them immune to standard diseases and poisons. They may be susceptible to poisons and diseases specifically tailored to their biochemistry, however.   Echolocation: Turunai have no eyes. Instead, they perceive the world through echolocation. They get +2 to notice rolls made to listen. They cannot read, however, and are dependent on haptic braille displays or TTS systems. Their echolocation does not work in vacuums and can be confused by loud noises. It does, however, allow them to “see” through solid objects. As an action, they may make a Notice roll at –4 through up to six feet of almost any material (except soundproof walls). If attacking a target through an object (see Obstacles in Savage Worlds), they suffer the same –4 penalty to their attack roll as well as the standard multiple action penalty.   Sense Electric Currents: Turunai can sense electrical currents in their immediate vicinity. This allows them to detect the bioelectric energy of most lifeforms as well as the electrical signatures of mechatech. They can use this ability to see through walls as with their echolocation above.   Regeneration: Turunai can make natural healing rolls every day.   Cold Resistant: Turunai are immune to all but the most extreme cold damage.   Spirit Attunement: Turunai start with a d6 in Spirit.
