Spell-lock Cannon
Spell-lock cannons are single shot weapons with low accuracy. These weapons use shells loaded with An Thuwar to eject a focused blast of An from the barrel. The cheaper ones are muzzle loading, while the more expensive varieties are breach loading. The shells come in several varieties—the cheapest and most common being blast, which eject a high-speed orb of An which impacts with extreme force. Shells imbued with various elemental effects such as ice, fire, radiation, or corruption exist as well.
Shells are easy to detect with the Sense An ability, especially when grouped in significant numbers such as in an ammunition crate. Expensive shells may come warded with a spell to cloak their resonance. Even if cloaked, the activation of a shell emits a strong spiritual shockwave which is automatically felt by any Xa’an practitioner within 10 kilometers.
Shells are activated with a spell-lock: a hammer enchanted to ignite the cartridge when they come into contact, which they do when the trigger is pulled. Combat engineers aim and fire the cannons visually.
The blasts leave ripples behind them as they tear through space: Example: https://youtu.be/HVVoYD0Fo6Q?t=18
