Soul-Computer
A Soul-Computer is a magi-technical computer used in Dursos. It consists of a mystically bound spirit that carries out more complex functions than an electronic computer. The Dursosi have a prohibition against slavery, so only the spirits of criminals can be bound into Soul-Computers, an act which is classified as community service rather than slavery. The period of service is determined by the judge during sentencing based on the crimes committed. Once the sentence is finished, the spirit is returned to its body (unless they have received a life sentence in which case their bodies are destroyed after sentencing meaning that when their service period is complete, the spirit is released into the cycle of death and rebirth).
Should there be a shortage of criminals, Dursosi travel into havens in search of law-breakers to buy from their respective governments. This has contributed to their sinister reputation.
Generally the mystic wards on the computer compel the spirit to follow the operator's commands. There have, however, been rare instances of soul-computers who have gone rogue.
