First Space

First Space is a four dimensional realm of luminous spiritual energy called An. In addition to depth, length, and height, beings in First Space can travel along a spiritual axis to move nearer to or farther from Second Space.   The expanse nearest to Second Space is a transitional region called the Obelus or the Between. In this region, colors fade and it is possible to perceive hazy images of what lies beyond in Second Space. The spirits of the deceased pass through this realm on their way to being reborn, and travelers in this region often encounter ghosts.   An is not evenly distributed throughout First Space. It coalesces into clouds, storms, currents and bands of twisting energy known as threads. These threads weave through the Fulgent passing into the Obelus at stars and then diving back into First Space in a network called the Weft. Ships in the Fulgent use Shuttle Drives to synchronize their resonance with a thread and ride it towards their destination.   Small amounts of mundane matter exist in First Space. These fragments from Second Space sometimes coalesce into physical islands complete with strange mystic lifeforms.

Go'okseutsako'ul, more commonly called the Bright Ones, are beings of pure An who swim through the Fulgent. Little is known about their lives and habits, except that they sometimes attack passing ships. Their level of intelligence, if any, is unknown as are their motivations, if any. They sometimes are spotted in groups and sometimes alone.
