Points of Interest
Meryl: Meryl, the Republic's capital city, is famous for its classical Irresi architecture as well as its many statues, friezes, plazas, waterfalls, and canals. It is a small city in the mountains with a population of slightly over 1.3 million. It is deliberately old fashioned, being made up of five-story buildings housing flats on the upper floors and shops on the ground level. Interspersed throughout the city are a plethora of parks and plazas all connected by pedestrian walks. Most of the city is closed to vehicle traffic (except delivery vehicles between midnight and six in the morning and emergency vehicles at any time), and its residents use its extensive subway system to get around. Meryl's economy is based primarily on services offered to the workers who staff the multitude of government offices and agencies based there (including the Mússar, the seat of the First Heptarchy, and the seat of the Prefecture). Tourism is also an important industry as millions of tourists from all over Tirsei IV (and beyond) come to see the city's ancient beauty and visit the National Museum of Erkas, the largest collection of museums in Erkas, with branches covering everything from art, to science, to history. Deseina: The true center of Belera, and indeed of the entire Republic, is Deseina. Located in the lowlands 200 kilometers south of Meryl where the Sarina river meets the Erseina Sea and boasting a population of 93 million, Deseina is the Republic's center of high-tech industry and design, finance, art, and entertainment. It is a densely populated city packed with thousands of kilometer-high skyscrapers and horrible traffic congestion. While it is infinitely cleaner and more pleasant than the mega-cities of Sator, its residents tend to think of it as a polluted cesspit (which is understandable when it is compared to Meryl or the nearby resort city of Gilei). Starport Diadys: A large space station that serves as the primary trading port for goods entering or exiting Belera. It has an average population of 250,000, although many of these are temporary residents since tens of thousands of vessels come and go every day for the purposes of trade, transport, and diplomacy. The station is named after Diadys Alysei, an important executor in the early republic credited with the creation of much of the nation's industrial base.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
