Hyran/Hyranians
Hyrans are direct descendants of the Threnians from Southern Syrel, who immigrated en masse throughout the Great Incursion. Some of the first humans to reenter Northwestern Syrel, the Threnians quickly established new homes and expanded outwards, inhabiting the southern part of modern-day Hydaera quickly and keeping the majority population there Threnian even as other humans made the northern voyage, a stark contrast from the ethnically-diverse early Asperalan Coast societies that gave rise to Noras culture. Over time, distance from their homeland and interactions with the Alsinvale elves and Sinokar dwarves led to gradual changes, to the point where Threnian and North Threnian (or Hyranian) culture had become clearly distinct, though basic Threnian concepts persisted.
Hyrans are famous for their familial codes of honor and pride and the majority-Hyran nation of Hydaera famously emphasizes education and the scholarly arts. Their society is clearly structured and divided into distinctive social castes, with clearly defined ways to ascend or descend the social ladder. At the core of Hyranian culture lies the family unit, and ideas and family norms extend to the larger
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The vast majority of Hyrans speak a dialect of Thralish, the native language of their Threnian ancestors, though in parts of north and south Hydaera where elves and Noras make up a decent part of the population, Hyrans also speak Alvish and Verithian, respectively.
Shared customary codes and values
Hyrans share a deep respect for a strong nuclear family unit, which lies at the foundation of their communities. Societal The changing power of education in improving the individual and, by extension, the society, is a concept strongly believed in and lies behind in Hydaera's famous education system. The perceived value of magical skill combined with the importance of education results in wizards being highly respected and possessing a similar status as artists and musicians in Noras society; schools often teach a handful of basic, practical cantrips, and Hydaerans in the middle-class and upward often know a bit of basic magic even if not in magic university or a wizard apprenticeship.
Common Etiquette rules
When greeting one another, Hyrans make a slight bow rather than make any sort of physical contact unless the subjects are in a casual and familiar relationship. The higher above you in the social hierarchy, the lower you bow, to the point where in the presence of royalty or the like, kneeling is expected. Gratitude is also expressed in a similar degree of bowing and kneeling.
Art & Architecture
Domes and towers feature prominently in Hyranian city skylines, with the Arthilien in Laevri and Capitol Dome in Feslark being famous examples of peak Hyranian architecture. Circular and cylindrical designs pervade much of their structures and decorations.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Hyrans often live together in a parents-children house, with children leaving the home to establish their own, separate households with their own family.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Hyrans bury their dead in large graveyards divided into sections based on families, each section radiating outwards from a family shrine. Annual visits to this shrine and graves of loved ones are customary, with visitors bringing flowers, food, and other offerings for the graves and the shrine.
