Welcome to Shinsekai
A TTRPG set in a fictional high-fantasy world of the same name, a world that draws inspiration from Japan’s history and mythology as well as stories and legends of its past and beats of pop culture. It was created as a game that steps away from the common tropes of Western fantasy but still has the same allure and feel of them. Just different enough is what I am going for The main setting of Shinsekai is heavily inspired by the Sengoku era of Japan's history. The golden age of samurai and the time most romanticized by old films and media, though it also takes homage to other periods such as the Edo and Heian. The feudal clans of Shinsekai are locked in an eternal war. And you the players will be thrust into the many conflicts of this world. There are plans to implement other notable cultures into the world (Some are already hinted at) as the game is developed such as the Ainu as well as other cultures though the basis as of now is centered on Japanese mythology and history as I feel that is the most widely known and recognized. As you progress through this book it will hopefully help you understand many of the peoples and places of this world. And I hope that you will all lend me your feedback on how I can improve this game and its world.Shinsekai is a land of breathtaking natural beauty and potent mystical forces, a world once bestowed upon mortals by the benevolent kami to nurture and thrive in. Samurai clash on war-torn fields, cutting down their fellow men, while yokai—malignant beings from another realm—stalk and devour those who attempt to flee the carnage. Amidst this turmoil, life endures. The people of Shinsekai continue their daily lives against the grim backdrop of war, giving rise to various factions and individuals striving to carve out their place in a world gone mad. Yokai slayers roam the lands, hunting the monstrous threats to make travel safer, while mercenary ronin, driven by coin and necessity, offer their services to the highest bidder. These wanderers, coming from all walks of life, are often unbound by loyalty, making them invaluable—and expendable—to the generals who hire them, and revered by the common folk who see them as their only hope. As a player, you will assume the role of one such wanderer, navigating a world steeped in chaos. Will you seek fortune and fame, building your renown across the war-torn lands? Or perhaps you aim to find a way to end the strife that has plagued Shinsekai for centuries. But tread carefully... dark forces loom on the horizon, and your journey may uncover more than you ever anticipated.
