Starlight Glen

The starlight glen is a massive forest that stretches out over the south-eastern part of the Astar Kingdom. It once was a magickal place where mages from all sorts of backgrounds were allowed to visit, but were unanimously banned after the maua fungi started to appear and reports were made of strange occurrences surrounding it. As a result, the native folyot of the glen made it their mission to guard the forest from "intruders" and deceive those they perceived as a threat. Their main mission was to make the travelers believe that the forest was full of dangerous creatures that would eat them on sight.

Geography

As dusk begins to settle, your path leads toward a grand forest with leaves sparkling like stars in the night sky. You keep following the road, stopping short of the forest. Colorful flowers line the forest's edge, like a tempting beacon. A little further down the path is a cobblestone pathway with two colorful statues on either side. You approach the statues, an ominous feeling washing over you. Perhaps these statues look a little too realistic. Roll a DC14 Perception check.

  Upon coming across the Starlight Glen, one can spot the gorgeous scenery of trees and flowers. Those native to Achana can sometimes remember the dangers the forest and know that its beauty is part of the deadly threat. Often nestled near the flowers is a folyot, waiting for an "intruder" to get closer to its home. It acts like it's willing to kill the intruders, but all they have to do is prove their worth by solving three riddles. If they fail, they will be attacked by the folyot and the platoon that it has brought with it. Passing the riddles three will allow the folyot to give them access to the glen, but only with a guide.

  While the glen seems peaceful and cheerful on the outside, those who pay attention to the forest floor as they enter will notice ( DC18 Perception check) twisted, black vines that grow under the brush and knot themselves underneath the roots of trees and shrubbery. An unsettling feeling quickly sinks into travelers who have made it past the folyot and into the glen once they notice the forest floor. The cobblestone paths beneath their feet are covered with elven runes and gorgeous Starlight Trees stretch out before them.   Delving deeper into the glen leads travelers to realize that the cobblestone path has faded from underfoot and is replaced by a narrow dirt path with cold, damp soil that crumbles when picked up. The once beautiful trees have drained of colored, appearing black amongst the darkness of the canopy that is filled with groans and creaks as dead leaves crunch with each step. Rotten organic matter reaches the travelers' noses, reminding them of the sewage tunnels in the capital. The travelers have now reached the center of the glen...

Structures

Inside the glen is the Rasp Manor, a haunted building located in the center of the glen and rumored to be filled with dangerous traps. Strange accidents befall those who enter the manor as an unnatural dark storm rolls in. The longer one stays at the manor, the more they can feel like a demonic presence is watching them.

Localized Phenomena

Strange possessions are said to have begun in the glen, yet nobody knows why. Some claim it to be a mysterious flower that started growing in the forest, while others claim the family that lived in the Rasp Manor practiced occult magick with demons and it cost them dearly.   Dark storms roll in when travelers enter the forest. By the time they come across the Rasp Manor, the storm is pressing down hard, threatening to kill them if they don't take refuge in the manor. Legends claim that the storm is connected to the demonic presence in the forest.   However, the most dangerous trick of all are the starlight tree leaves. From a distance, they appear harmless, but the longer a mage stares at them, they are drawn to enter the forest. The mage is enchanted upon taking a look at the leaves when they reach the outer edge of the glen. To escape the clutches of the tree's effect, a mage must make a DC15 Wisdom save to avoid being under the influence of the tree. Every hour they are under the influence, they can attempt to break free of the enchantment, or a party member can snap them out of it by dealing a physical attack with a nonmagickal weapon. The longer the mage is affected by the enchantment, the harder it is to break free.

Potential demonic presences, dark shadows and twisted thing, fell enchantments and potential hauntings. All the trappings of a wonderful location for some truly emotion eliciting story-telling, yet most definitely a place where people should not go. Well written indeed, certainly one I shall tuck in my collection! :)   Oh do note you seem to have like an unfinished or extra command in your sidebar, you have a /subcontainer command that seems to have escaped containment (pun intended) or is otherwise not doing a job at all?? Unsure.

I'm glad you liked the article. I'm trying to bring a darker edge to my upcoming campaign.   And thanks for letting me know about the sidebar. I guess I can't do a subcontainer within a subcontainer. ^^;
