Career
Qualifications
As with all paladins, one must undergo extensive training to the point their original will is broken down and reformed stronger in the eyes of their god -- in this, Heironeous, god of Justice. While paladins can worship any god, a devotion paladin is loyal to Heironeous, one of the three gods of light.
Payment & Reimbursement
All devotion paladins are paid for their time out in the field. For each mission the complete, they are given a pouch containing 600 to 800 gold. If they fail a mission, they are paid 200 gold as it is money taken out of the Paragons' pockets. A devotion paladin that has died in battle has 1,500 gold sent back to their living family or it is donated to a charity in their name.
Perception
Purpose
A devotion paladin has but one main goal -- to bask light in every dark corner of the world and rid it of evil and corruption. Other important tasks include cleansing the broken of their sins and spreading the word of Heironeous and their mission to anyone who will listen.
Devotion paladins are tasked with completing missions given to them by the deacon of the main church church they work out of. All missions must be completed, regardless of their morals or stance -- loyalty to the church comes first.
Social Status
Devotion paladins are seen as holy knights, the very essence of light itself, to commoners. They are revered and worshiped, often spoiled by commoners when a devotion paladin comes through their town. However, the enemies of Heironeous see them as pompous nuisances that need to be wiped out.
Operations
Tools
A devotion paladin is never seen without their lantern, which is used to light their way through the dark and as a form of hypnosis during meditation to Heironeous. They even carry around a copy of the holy scripture given to the Light Oracles. On their backs is their shield with a blue rim and a silver lightning bolt to resemble the light that Heironeous brings forth.
