Festus Pollen
Festus pollen is a fine, powdery substance known for its disgusting scent that carries for miles on the wind and supple cotton. Flies can be seen buzzing around the trees it grows on. When someone come across a giving tree in the middle of producing festus pollen, the rotten meat stench is unforgettable, often driving the person to leave the tree after just a short while.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Festus pollen is described as being translucent while giving off iridescent shimmers when light hits it at just the right angle. When still attached to the budding flowers on the giving tree, the pollen shimmers like rainbows against sunlight.
Geology & Geography
The pollen often starts growing on a giving tree during spring before breaking loose and traveling for miles unless colliding with something and falling to the ground to hopefully embed itself in some soil to begin growing a new giving tree. To find festus pollen, all one must do is find a giving tree, which can be found all over the world, but mostly in the forests of Achana.
Life & Expiration
The pollen first blooms in spring and lasts through summer, but it's abundant during springtime, when the giving tree flowers are in full bloom. When summer hits, the pollen wanes due to the flowers falling off for the starlight leaves to grow in and eventually dies out by autumn. Once the pollen has broken loose from a giving tree, it lasts for a single day unless it finds itself being embedded into soil.
History & Usage
Manufacturing & Products
The pollen can be spun into a stinky cotton-like substance used for making clothes, blankets, curtains, etc. And while the stink can be a problem, it can be erased with exotic oils and perfumes during the production stage.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
The "stink" created by the pollen can be extracted by using emberback spiders to weave the pollen into its cotton form and the heat from the spiders causing a dewy oil to drip from the cotton. This oil can be used as a deterrent to keep unwanted pests away from buildings, farms, flowerbeds, etc. However, flies and other insects that are attracted to putrid scents will hover around the area, so using another type of deterrent might be beneficial.
