Iphrium

Overview

Iphrium is the first official Demimaterial. The name was likely derived from the acronym IPHR, standing for Impact, Pressure, Heat Resistant as the material is highly resistant to sudden impact, has high tensile, compressive, and shear strength (for pressure vessels), and has an extremely high melting temperature, capable of remaining a solid at temperatures exceeding one million degrees fahrenheit for short periods and lesser temperatures indefinitely, though it is a decent heat conductor so when used as armor it may require some insulation.

History

The material was first developed by Paul Smith in 2048 and used to seek investors for his Demimaterials research. Saudi Aramco, looking to build a fusion reactor business, thought the material would be well-suited for the reactor chambers and they were right. They purchased Google in 2050 and merged the engineers with other acquired and pre-existing research groups in order to form Quantum Atomic Solutions (QAS), a company that would have a near monopoly on energy and demimaterials for some time.

Eventually Iphrium would be found in everything from vehicle skin/armor to woven thread for body armor (though this technique proved too difficult for QAS manufacturing systems and was exclusively made by The Brotherhood aboard the Victoria Aconitum for their elite fighting force, the Aconites).
