Oakshire
The city of Oakshire is the capitol city of Jiravess and the first settlement that was founded when the small folk first settled the fertile valley that is now known as Jiravess. The first settlers planted an acorn brought from home on a ridge overlooking the new town, which grew into the enormous oak tree the city is named for, and which remains the focal point of the city to this day. Most markets, festivals and celebrations are held in the large town square facing the tree, and local belief claims that it is blessed by Yondalla herself and that as long as the tree remains healthy and cared for, the surrounding fields will remain fertile and the harvests bountiful. The tree's network of roots has grown so wide that they pierce through the ridge overlooking the square. During festivals lights and streamers are hung from these roots.
Oakshire is very vibrant, colourful and green, with most homes having a small garden or at least some potted plants or flowers. The majority of the homes are owned by halflings, with a few groupings of Gnome hovels dug into the hills here and there. Interspersed with these homes, however, are homes and taverns suited for those of other races that live in Oakshire or come to visit or trade. Most taverns within the city have several spare rooms for the many larger folk that flock towards Oakshire during the various markets and festivals throughout the year. Surrounding Oakshire is a large network of fields and pastures that supply the city and the surrounding area.
Notable locations within Oakshire are the council building -where the ruling council of elders holds office-, the Trove of Tales, the Mad Malts Brewery, the workshop of Ipamor Morin, and the headquarters of the Jiravess Volunteer Pony Brigade a small ways outside the city proper.

Government
Oakshire holds the council building where the ruling council of Jiravess holds office. Though only Selgyra Ordinal (as the representative elder for Oakshire) has a permanent residence within the city, the other elders spend most of their time in the city as well, relying on subordinates to inform them of any going-ons at home. The council debates and decides on any matter of state, while a group of clerks runs the day-to-day affairs and puts any decrees in order.
Industry & Trade
The fields and pastures around Oakshire supply the most work, but the city is also known for it's many craftsmen. Weavers, tanner and tailors process the wool and hides from the surrounding towns and lands, the brewers of the Mad Malts brewery are known far and wide for their ales, and various Gnomish tinkerers, alchemists, and other workmen provide various specialty goods. Mostly, however, Oakshire works as a market town where people from the surrounding towns and those outside Jiravess gather to barter and trade their wares. Warehouses filled with various raw materials and processed goods make sure that there is allways a stockpile ready for those traders and craftsmen that missed one of the market days. The city is also known for its many taverns and inns that cater both the locals and the many traders and travellers that travel to Oakshire for the weekly markets. Most know that there is no shortage of good food and drink either produced locally or imported from elsewhere.
Architecture
The city is known for it's small stone buildings made of the local, honeycomb coloured limestone. The homes have thatched roofs and simple, oaken doors and shutters, but the buildings are often adorned with colourful flowerboxes and lush gardens.
Geography
Oakshire was built on a fairly plain area between the surrounding hills. A small ridge overlooks the city and the Rolling Run river flows past the town proper, powering the large watermill and supplying the city with fresh water.
