Hir Taruhm
Hir Taruhm is an anomaly among Dwarvenkind. While most Dwarven holds are situated within mountains or underground and rarely see the light of day, the majority of Hir Taruhm's holds are above ground, which has caused the Hir Taruhm dwarves to be referred to as Hill Dwarves. This is somewhat of a misnomer, as most Hill Dwarves do in fact live in settlements and holds that either skirt the base of a mountain or are built on top of mountain ranges, but it serves to differentiate them from the independent holds of the Mountain Dwarves that tunnel through mountains elsewhere. Also, whereas most Dwarven holds are fiercely independant entities, the Dwarven holds of Hir Taruhm are united under the leadership of a high king. It is a small but proud, mountainous kingdom that has survived the first orc wars due to it's isolated position and the rugged terrain that forms a natural defense.
The kingdom is littered with various small settlements and holds that are built along the various mountain rages of the kingdom. Various terraces carved out of the mountains hold farms that grow hardy crops to supply the Hill Dwarves with food. The settlements are linked by paved roads, bridges and stairs, some of which scale enormous mounts and include thousands of steps and various resting stops. Traveling to and between the holds of Hir Taruhm is generally not for the faint of heart and is generally considered too daunting for most non-Dwarves. For this vary reason, magical travel is used for those incapable of making the ardeous trecks or those who are on important or hasty errands.
Structure
Hir Taruhm is lead by a high king that holds supreme power over the kingdom, but is councilled by the Hammer and Anvil.
The Hammer is the highest general and a military advisor that is also in charge of the military's training, equipment and supplies. He also makes sure all citizens receive basic combat training.
The Anvil is the highest priest of Moradin and an advisor in all religious and most civil matters. He also keeps a close watch on the various craftsmen and their needs within the kingdom.
