Arleron

The Wood-Elven realm of Arleron encompasses the entirety of the Zenrai'el woodlands. Most visitors do not travel much further then the villages on the outskirts of the wild and verdant woodlands and this - along with the reclusive nature of the wood elves - has caused Arleron to be known as a land of mystery. Few have ever set eyes upon the capitol of Sylithserah, deep in the heart of the forest and fewer still know of all the things that can be found within the remote parts of this woodland realm.   Because of the Wood Elves' outlook, in which they live close to nature and try not to impede on the natural order of things, there are few cities besides in Arleron besides Sylithserah. The few cities and villages that the Wood Elves maintain are in close harmony to the surroundings and almost seem to spring from the earth and plantlife itself. Within the forest interior, most of the Wood-Elf homes are magically "grown" to form an organic whole with the surrounding area, and most visitors are awed by the treehouses that appear to spiral around and even through the towering trees of the Zenrai'el woods. For non-Wood Elf residents, and in the villages on the outskirts of the forests it is more likely to find simple, but elegant homes crafted from the quality lumber that the forests provide. Pathways are maintained between the various cities and settlements, but since the Wood Elves prefer to let nature run it's course these pathways can be difficult to travel and any travelers or traders are expected to provide their own guides or protection against the many dangers of the Zenrai'el woods.   The kingdom is run by the royal Larethellon family, whose dynasty has ruled Arleron since its founding during the Crown Wars. Each member of the royal family is taught and trained to serve their people to the best of their abilities. For the Wood Elves, however, the meaning of "serving" ones people is considered to be much more literal than the way other monarchies approach it. The royal family will allways remain close to and part of the people, which for example means that the royal household does not employ any servants but is instead expected to provide for themselves and even to serve any guests or visiting dignitaries themselves. The rulers are expected to allways hold the needs of their people higher than their own and to give their life willingly if needed for the sake of the people. This results in most visitors looking on in confusion when they find a member of the royal family presiding over ceremonies or diplomatic duties one day, only to find them amongst the people to mend both literal and figurative fences the next day.

Demography and Population

The vast majority of the population naturally consists of Wood Elves, allthough Arleron also houses a relatively large population of Moon Elves and some Sun Elves. Allthough members of the other civilised races are known to settle amongst the Wood Elves, they are relatively few in number and most settle in the settlements on the outskirts of the woodlands, where the denizens are more open to outsiders and their ways. The Zenrai'el woodlands also house various woodland denizens like forest gnomes, centaurs and dryads, some of which living in or close to Wood-Elven settlements.

Military

Allthough technically more of a police force then a military branch, the Wayfinders are a group of highly trained individuals that are tasked with the safeguarding of the forest and keeping the pathways between the cities and settlements relatively clear. The Wayfinder will ocasionally intervene in disputes or other matters within the smaller settlements when they are not equipped enough to solve the matters themselves. Most cities maintain a guardforce and Sylithserah maintains a small standing army as a defence force. Since most Wood Elves are taught the use of the bow, regardless of their occupation, and the Wood-Elf expertise in guerilla fighting, few would dare to try and move an army through the wilde and dense Zenrai'el forest, despite the relatively low number of armed forces that Arleron posseses.

Foreign Relations

The Wood Elves of Arleron are fairly isolationist, choosing to stay away from most politics and other matters as long as they do not harm their beloved forest or encroach on their borders and interests. Arleron does maintain diplomatic contact with the other Elven nations but this can often be seen as a mere formality due to the drastically different outlook of the various Elven subraces. Relations with the small folk of the neighbouring Jiravess remains strong, however, and Arleron has even allowed Jiravess the use of a small, outer portion of the Zenrai'el woods where the two nations meet.
