Stone Dwarven of Wlack

Archmage Altair is the one who named the founders of Wlack City “Stone Dwarven”.     He did so because in his mind the specie solid body structure and legendary skill as miners and blacksmiths associated them with a mythical specie popular in Earthling fiction. The fact that the only Wlackian met by Altair happened to be a very short guy may have helped the association.       The Infamous Archmage probably never knew that another ii from Earth had named the people of Wlack before, in the Earthling year of 1711. This scholar who actually lived on Wlack city for some time called the specie “Aristotelian” alluding to the cause behind their most distinctive characteristic.       Stone Dwarfs came from a Universe where all things are composed by a small number of elements and each of those elements has a “natural place” on space. Much like the theories of the Greek Philosopher Aristotle on planet Earth. We know the Universe of this people are not like the one described by Aristotle because it must be identical to the Astronomical maps of our own Universe (otherwise it could not be reached by the Vortex), but the people who founded Wlack did not had knowledge about the stars in their home Universe.      In fact this particular specie could not even see the stars, or any other celestial body. Because being composed of an high percentage of element earth they lacked the “mater of stars” in their body. In their Universe the elements inside each living thing must react to those around this thing in order to be noticed. Without stardust in their bodies the stone dwarves could not perceive those celestial bodies.      Given their composition the specie was extremely heavy, their bodied strongly “wanted” to move down, and reach their natural place at the centre of their planet. For the same reason they where also extremely strong and resilient.      When the Vortex brought the first individuals of this species to Sharitarn the encounter between the Physics of their native Universe and the one in this reality transformed them drastically. In many aspects.       Stone Dwarven gained the capacity of see the stars as well as humans do. That was terrifying for them at first.       They are still very heavy, about fifty times heavier than humans. Their strength is about ten times the proportional for that weight. Their physical resistance is absurdly high, specially when considered impact, but is also harder to measure. Their bodies have far passed the necessary resistance to endure a fall from any high, since the maximum velocity Sharitarn gravity can provide in its atmosphere isn't enough to be dangerous for them. The levels of temperature and radiation found on most parts of Sharitarn stays in their confort zone, without touch its borders. The two things that usually hurt and sometimes kill them are magic and suffocation (because they do still need to breath and usually can't do that under water).           Unfortunately the change did not affected their body in a uniform way. Their heads gained considerably more weight than the rest of the body, and their upper bodies proportionally far more than the legs. As result, is impossible for them to stand up and much less keep their balance while walking.        Those who can, do solve the problem with magical objects designed specifically for that. As for the Wlackian who do not have magic potential awaken, the alternative is to use immense boots and metallic trousers made from materials heavy enough to balance their bodies. Unfortunately for them materials with that characteristics are rare and not cheap.         That do forces the specie to stay in their current location, west of the Rogue Dragon Mountains, in the woods now know as "Dwarven Forest" by most Earthlings (thanks to Altair's notes).        They have been there since before the Dragons arrive from the Vortex, and when the large flying specie created a Imperial Theocracy in the area the Wlackian just accepted the rulers of Iborn because they could not afford to leave their precious mines.          Stone Dwarf Slave-girls are as common on Wlack as human slave-girls on the normal human city. However, they seldom enter on the market beyond the limits of their nation.       Not that their owners would not sell their own specie by a fair price. Is just that almost no one wants to buy those girls. A slave-girl who can't feel the whip, and is far too heavy to be carried by most cargo beasts, is not a interesting or economically viable good for trade.                   “The World is a shapeless spot on the internal side of Eshbú’s Eyeball.            What makes some things fall to the ground is Eshbú’s Mind pulling to the centre of his brain the things he likes. What makes other things go up in the sky is Eshbú’s mind pushing away the things Eshbú dislike.          Those who please Eshbú will visit Eshbú’s brain after they die. They will travel long distances in there and have a chance to earn their way back to the World as powerful Emissaries of Eshbú, to guide their descendants in the Ways of Eshbú. Alternatively they may fail in that, and instead be send to teach estrange people in some other Eyeball.          Those who displease Eshbú will be carried by Eshbú’s blood and endure Eons of meaningless suffering in Eshbú’s Stomachs, all the 11 of them. Alternatively, those too heinous for even that, may be send to the Lungs and expelled from there in a Sneeze of Eshbú."           "So believe the Imani, the religious people among the citizens of Wlack city", said Xiirsh.
Aristotle Cosmogony considers Earth to be spherical and immobile in the center of the Universe. That is so because Earth is made predominantly of element earth, solid things are like that. Each element in the Universe has its place, and the place of element earth is at the center (but rocks and other solid things are not pure earth, there is atoms of water, air, and fire in each rock. Earth is just the predominant ingredient).  Water wants to go down as well, but not as down as earth. While fire and air want to go up, to the sky, far away to the center of Universe.       Broadly speaking that was the model of reality most well educated people kept for about one thousand years. If you ever heard an History teacher say that "every body" on Europe believed that Earth was flat some time during the Middle Ages, well: that teacher was being imprecise, to not say lying.       Any way, Aristotle was the highest authority in such stuff and his work says Earth is round, immobile and in the center of the Universe. What is above it is made of a stuff you don't usually find on Earth. Stars and Planets do not move in the same way things on Earth move, they do not transform in the same ways, because they are made of another other element. Reality above the Moon has its own rules, so to speak. However, that is not how our Universe actually is (if I am to risk a guess) and neither is how the Universe of Altair is.       And Altair know the home Universe of stone dwarven is exactly like his own in terms of sizes and positions of celestial bodies, because all Universes at Vortex reach are identical in that cosmological aspect. He does not know anything else, however.       Could be that stone dwarven home Universe is actually composed of five kinds of atoms, one for each element. Or a number higher than than but still in the few dozen. Could be that things on the home planet of this specie are made of one sort of element and things in other celestial bodies are made of other atoms. The only certainty is that whatever they are, the sizes and distances are exactly identical up there than they are at Sharitarn Universe, at Earth Universe, and at any other Parallel Universe ever touched by the Vortex.
