Archmage Faengor of Lutianen
Faengor is a distant mentor, your archetypal Gandalf whit long pipe and all. Except that Gandalf was never half as powerful as your average sigrax, mages are godlike beings in terms of power. Archmages are far more powerful than mages, and Faengor is the second most powerful archmage on Lutianen. I suggest you keep him far from action, just sharing information.
One curious thing about him is that he probably know more about Earth than any of us. He was Dean on Black Centaur during all the time Earth was the parallel planet tuned by the Vortex. He certainly know who Gandalf is, for instance. And may have a t-shirt with the fictional mage's image, painted by a Earthling student to look like a scene from one of the movies.
Faengor of Lutianen was born Noble Caste, he is member of one of the most traditional families on Insular City and great uncle of King Cerbion.
During his childhood Faengor was a angry kid, and a admirer of Warrior Caste. His magic potential, and his success in the First Test interrupted what everyone expected to be a brilliant carrear as Almirante of Lutianen War Navy. His impulsive temperament led to several conflicts in his years at Black Centaur, as student. He was not "Mage Caste material" in the eyes of his professors, to put it lightly.
Many times his parents worried about his chances of raise above the status of sigrax. Asking themselves what would be worse: to have a son living as bellow the status he was born for as that, or to have that son dying in the Second Test.
However, Faengor was talented and intelligent. And in his own way also disciplined.
Since the Second Test ends in success or painful death, the former Noble Caste boy felt motivated enough to look for the first option.
Was about his time that Faengor stepped by accident in the secret of archmage Bindhai, who was at this time consolidating his power from the position of Black Centaur Deal. The young mage Faengor saw no serious problem in have a vampire hiding as mortal, or even an outsider living under a false identity of native of Lutianen. However, the obsessive paranoia of archmage Bindhai had costed the city several promising mages already and because of that Faengor took upon himself expose the caste brother and destroy him.
That goal was the secret origin of Faengor's long research about the Cursed Ruins at Seven Rivers Bay, which stays on the Continent in front of Lutianen Island. What the vampire archmage fears most is hidden somewhere in those ruins, or so believe the other man.
In the middle of politics and an unnecessarily high number of duels, took Faengor up to the age of 62 years to reach the level where he was ready to travel to Urshawa and became an archmage. That was a dangerous trip, even more than usually is for other mages since Bindhai did his best to have the living mage accident-ed to death in a non-reversible sense. However, not only the vampire foe came back alive and as an archmage, he also brought from his adventure a magical treasure that would allow him to continue as a complication for Bindhai for much longer than normal.
Faengor has now a black ring with a healing spell that prolongs his life for centuries. He used his prestige, and the new status as archmage to undermine the vampire's position on Lutianen, what forces Bindhai to give up Black Centaur Castle. That happened about 500 years before Altair arrive from the Vortex, to met Faengor smoking his long pipe on Black Centaur pier.
The Ey 1590 (Earthling year: used here just for reference of Earthling readers) the Vortex was in the middle of a Transition Period, between Rhalpav and the planet Earth. No one knew yet what parallel planet would be tuned by the Vortex after Rhalpav. Transition Periods are violent times, and also times of great opportunity since the intense activity of the Vortex brings large numbers of potential Mage Castes. By taking Black Centaur from his enemy at this point Faengor caused him a heavy loss.
Nowadays
In Ey 2090 Faengor is still Dean of Black Centaur Castle, most living citizens cannot see the large castle of medieval aspect without imagine the old man of long white beard, and vice-versa. Archmage Faengor is a Soothsayer (he follows the Divination Way). He is recognized as the highest authority on the Vortex on Lutianen, and also is one of the most respected specialists in Earthling culture in all Mage's Brotherhood. Hellicon, Faengor's pupil, has been in charge of Welcome Tower for about one decade. Placed on the Continent, above the Seven Rivers Bay, right on the mouth of a Green Line, the Welcome Tower is the first image of Sharitarn civilization many iis have. The war against Shirshan interrupts the old archmage's research about the Cursed Ruins.
