Guardian Pylons
The Guardian Pylons are a critical component of Haven's internal defense, serving as a reactive security network against any threat that manages to breach the Great Wall. They are a much more common sight than the massive Resonance Sentinels and are seamlessly integrated into the city's architecture.
Guardian Pylons are polished obelisks of pale sunstone, typically standing around ten feet tall and adorned with intricate, swirling patterns carved into their surface. Unlike the Resonance Sentinels, these carvings remain dormant and unlit under normal circumstances, making the pylons blend in with the surrounding buildings and serve a secondary purpose as a form of urban decoration. They are strategically placed throughout the internal districts of Haven, marking major intersections, public plazas, and the entrances to key administrative buildings.
Their true purpose is only revealed when a Warden—a Conduit responsible for the security of a district—activates them. When a threat is detected, a Warden can channel their magic into a pylon, causing the intricate carvings to glow with a brilliant, pulsing light. Once activated, a Guardian Pylon can project a highly focused and localized magical barrier to seal off an area, or it can unleash a concussive blast of energy to incapacitate a threat. These effects are temporary and designed for immediate, tactical use, making the Guardian Pylons a versatile and essential tool for maintaining peace and order within the city's walls.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of the Guardian Pylons is to serve as Haven's internal, reactive security system, providing the Wardens with the necessary tools to maintain order and control within the city's walls. They are a crucial component of the city's tiered defense, designed to handle threats that have already bypassed the Great Wall and the patrols of the Verdant Expanse.
