This world is hiding secrets. Our histories are fractured and it is our duty to uncover who we are and where we come from.
This is a volatile world of stories and mystery. Some of what you learn will be mere myth. Other tales will be layered half-truths. And some will be so unbelievable you may dismiss them as lies or legend. Yet no story is complete without the lived experiences of those who walk its paths. Welcome, traveler. Listen closely.
Welcome to the Brolskaforren
While this planet is habitable it's very different from the Earth you know. There is a day night cycle but it differs greatly.Binary Star System
The world of Brolskaforren has two stars. A bright yellow sun named Dagr (Dah-gur) and a dimmer red sun named Awilix (Ah-wee-lish. The planet itself is a Super-Earth, a world far larger and denser than a typical terrestrial planet, orbiting a massive gas giant named Domarayalos (DOH-mah-Rye-ah-lohs), within the binary star system which in turn orbits the barycenter of the two stars. Two other planets exist in the system, but not much is known about them. They are coloquially known as Vorynth(VOR-inth) and Caelthara(KAYL-thar-uh).
Fantastic Environments
Much of Brolskaforren is shaped by strange but naturally occurring phenomena that defy the expectations. The crackling lightning maelstroms of the Fingers near Moonstone Bay and the resonant Singing Canyons north of Hámingja are only two well-known examples. Countless other regions hold their own wonders and dangers, waiting for those bold enough to venture beyond familiar borders. And truly, these are only scratching the surface of what the world has to offer.
History of the World
Much of Brolskaforren’s true history has been swallowed by time. What people call “civilization” today is built atop the broken remnants of an age long vanished. The Qel’Sorren and their ancient rivals, the Dokandvari, once shaped the world in ways modern scholars can barely imagine. Their final war shattered both peoples, taking their languages, knowledge, and much of their remarkable technology with them. What survives now are only fragments: scattered ruins, half-functioning relics, and whispered stories that hint at a world far older, and far stranger, than the one left behind.
Magic and Quiescent Shards
Magic functions much like it does in the Daggerheart SRD, but Quiescent Shards add an extra layer to how magic interacts with the world. These shards act as conduits and stabilizers, allowing spellcasters to amplify their abilities, focus ambient arcane energy, and create semi-permanent magical effects. They’re not just fuel—they’re a bridge between raw magic and the physical world.
The Day-Night Cycle and Climate Zones
Brolskaforren is a world of stark contrasts, shaped by its permanent alignment to the twin stars and its orbit around the massive gas giant Domarayalos. Unlike Earth, its “day” is not dictated by rotation but by celestial choreography.
Tidal Locking and Stellar Exposure
Dagr-side (Tropical / Warm): This hemisphere faces the bright yellow sun, Dagr, receiving near-constant heat and light. Lush jungles, vast oceans, and volatile weather dominate this side, driven by the intense solar energy. Eclipses from Domarayalos occasionally dim the sun for hours, but for the most part, daylight is uninterrupted.Awilix-side (Cold / Dimly Habitable): Permanently facing the dim red sun, Awilix, this hemisphere exists in perpetual twilight. Glaciers, hardy flora and fauna, and muted red light define the environment. Occasional shadows from the gas giant deepen the twilight but rarely plunge the region into full darkness.
The Dusk Ring (Twilight Belt): Between the two extremes lies the Dusk Ring, a dynamic twilight zone where one sun is almost always visible. Here, light shifts subtly as Domarayalos moves through the planet’s sky, casting partial or full eclipses. The interplay of warm winds from the Dagr-side and cold currents from the Awilix-side produces temperate weather, fertile valleys, mist-draped hills, and vibrant ecosystems. It is the most Earthlike region of the planet, a place of balance and relative stability.
Full “Day” Cycle: For any given point on the planet, a full cycle of light, dimness, and shadow is irregular, dictated by Brolskaforren’s orbit around Domarayalos, rather than by planetary rotation. Dagr-side: ~35–50 Earth hours of bright light, dimmed dramitccaly during eclipses for about 10-15 hours and treated as "night". Awilix-side: ~40–50 Earth hours of consistent dim light, rarely fully dark. Dusk Ring: highly variable, ~30–70 Earth hours per cycle, depending on the gas giant’s position. This irregular rhythm ensures that no part of the planet is permanently frozen or scorched over.

Gods and other Planes
The Source
There is but one. It has many names in many languages, but most cultures simply refer to it as "The Source". The font from which all magic, life and creation draws from. Some honor it through small druidic circles close to the land, while others gather in vast congregations guided by strict doctrine and structured leadership. Still others offer no prayers at all, choosing instead to revere The Source in quiet moments of awe. However it is approached, the influence of The Source is felt everywhere, woven into the lives of those who walk this world.
Other Gods
From the Source, and the bond between the Quiescent Shards and all living things, arise the lesser deities of Brolskaforren. Shaped by the thoughts, emotions, and needs of the world’s people, these beings are tied to concepts as wide-ranging as love, fate, decay, growth, memory, death, and, of course, fear and hope. Some begin as simple spirits sparked by a single desperate prayer, while others roar into existence as mighty powers born from catastrophe or miracle. Whatever their origin, each deity reflects the moments and emotions that shaped them, and their gifts and influence mirror their true nature.
The Elemental Planes and the Afterlife
The PlanesThe people of Brolskaforren understand the cosmos as a layered and living structure. The physical world sits at the center, but it is not alone. Surrounding it are the Spillways, realms shaped by emotion, memory, and elemental force. Scholars argue for a shadowed mirror-world where forgotten moments drift like smoke. while the Fae wanderers whisper of wild, shifting lands where rules bend and time stumbles. None agree on the exact boundaries of these realms, but all accept that they exist alongside Brolskaforren, slipping close in places where the world thins or where Quiescent Shards pulse with unusual intensity.
The Cycle of Life and Death
Most cultures believe that when a person dies, their spirit briefly drifts into the Crossroads, a twilight space between the waking world and the deeper mysteries beyond. What happens next depends on tradition. Some say souls are carried into the keeping of the lesser deities who shaped their lives. Others claim the spirit sinks into the Flow, where it is gently returned to the Source. A few insist that rare souls, those with a strong tie to a shard, or bound by unfinished purpose, linger as guides, guardians, or restless echoes. Whatever the truth, the afterlife is not a single destination but a journey shaped by belief, legacy, and the pull of the Source itself.
Who/What is this for?
This primer introduces a world setting created for the Daggerheart TTRPG by Darrington Press. Its purpose is to present a living world, one meant to grow and evolve alongside the players whose stories shape it.
What Genre is this?
Brolskaforren is a magikpunk, mythic dark fantasy world shaped by arcane forces and the echoes of civilizations long vanished. Ancient peoples like the Qel’Soren built living machines, resonant structures, and impossible wonders that modern societies barely understand, let alone control. Industrial cities rise beside haunted ruins, and every discovery peels back another layer of truth, myth, or danger. This is a realm where forgotten magicks power the present, where stories hold as much weight as steel, and where the brave, and foolish, push against the boundaries of the unknown.
A Living World
This world, and this site, will grow and change as players interact with it. Some elements and stories will solidify into canon, while others remain campfire tales, half-remembered rumors, or songs spun by wandering bards. In Brolskaforren, the truth is often shaped by those bold enough to seek it.
Tone
Brolskaforren balances mythic wonder with creeping darkness. The world is marked by ancient wounds, volatile magicks, and mysteries that twist truth into legend. Yet the stories told here follow people striving to do what they can—explorers, caretakers, wanderers, and unlikely heroes who push back against the shadows. Things may be strange, dangerous, or broken, but decency and determination still matter, and hope survives through those who carry it.
What is the "Tech" level like?
Brolskaforren sits at a medieval magitek level of technology. Most places rely on quiescent shards for everyday life, using them for lighting, heat, tools, and travel. Much of this knowledge comes from reverse-engineering the remnants of far older and more advanced civilizations destroyed in a long-ago war. What people use now is essentially their best reconstruction of what once existed. In regions where shards are rare or unstable, societies fall back on early clockwork and steampunk-style machinery instead. Across the world, magic, fragments of ancient tech, and practical mechanics blend together in uneven but clever ways, shaping how each culture grows and survives.
The Rule of Cool
While the world may be bigger, brighter AND darker more often than our Earth, physics will function the same( with some exceptions). Treat this like any other fantasy world and have FUN. Make stuff up and use this as a framework for our adventure together.Too many want to be stone, be water For it's all, in together, giving our all, together.
