Moonlit Rest
Faded Guesthouse
A fine guest house for visiting samurai in the logging village of Rindō. The two-story, elaborately-carved exterior of Moonlit Rest is entirely at odds with the rest of the town's humble appearance. It is thought to be the work of an overzealous architect desperate to leave their mark no matter how remote the site of their art must be. In truth, Rindō is so dull and so sparsely-visited that few have ever bothered to investigate the building's origins.
Surrounding a small courtyard with a fountain and two tiny but well-tended rock gardens, Moonlit Rest's shape resembles a horseshoe. Its back, which might in a larger city open onto a scenic vista, instead merely abuts the thick woods that crowd around Rindō. The main building houses ten spacious rooms, although no more than two are often filled at a time, while a well-designed but poorly-maintained stable lurks to its side. Moonlit Rest's curator is a scraggly old man known only as "Lu." He supposedly only speaks when money is concerned and performs the bare amount of maintenance required to keep the place functioning and avoid the ire of the Magistrate.
