The Forgotten Prince
The fairy tale of the Forgotten Prince is a well-known story in Shal'Azura. It is a beloved bed-time story and is told in as many iterations as there are people. Nobody knows who the original narrator was or where it originated from.
Once upon a time, in a strange and far away land, there was a famous ruler known as King Uwbirun, revered for his strength, wisdom, and unmatched power. He had many sons, each born with great potential, but it was his seventh son, who was destined for a remarkable fate. This prince was the seventh son of a seventh son, a rare and sacred birth that foretold he would either become the most powerful wizard the world had ever known or the key to unlocking a hidden curse that could destroy the realm.
The prophecy had always been a matter of great debate among the kingdom’s vezirs, but one fateful night, as the seventh son was celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday, disaster struck. A betrayal from within the king’s court cast a spell of erasure over the prince —an ancient curse designed to remove his existence from the memories of every living being, including his own family. In a flash, the prince was forgotten, as though he had never been born. No one could recall his name, his face, or even that he existed.
Time passed, and the kingdom continued to thrive without a trace of the prince. King Uwbirun ruled with his other sons, none the wiser to the fate of his forgotten son. However, the curse came with a dark consequence: a creeping shadow began to invade the borders of the kingdom, unseen at first but slowly growing in strength.
For years, the prince wandered through the forgotten corners of the realm, a silent and unremembered prince. He called himself Jansaa Dunya, “the One forgotten to the world”. In his isolation, he was drawn to an ancient forest that few dared to enter. Here, he encountered an old, mystical creature—an ancient being called the Weeping Oracle, whose tears could unravel forgotten truths. The Oracle revealed to the prince the truth of his heritage and the curse that had erased him. "You are the Forgotten Prince," the Oracle whispered, "but your destiny still lingers in the threads of fate. The realm needs you, young prince. The shadow creeping upon us is no mere illusion—it is the undoing of your family and the kingdom itself."
With nothing but his will to guide him, the prince set out on a journey to restore his memory and break the curse. Along the way, he encountered magical creatures and mystical allies, each offering a piece of the puzzle. A talking goat who claimed to have once been his guardian, a stubborn pixie who remembered fragments of the prince’s laughter, and a blind seer who could see what no other could—these were just a few of the companions who helped the prince discover the key to his curse.
But the path was fraught with challenges. The shadow growing in the kingdom was not merely a physical force but a manifestation of the memories stolen from the prince. Every person, every moment lost to time, had created a dark power that threatened to swallow the entire realm. To defeat it, the prince would need to unlock the memory of his true purpose, a truth so powerful that it had been hidden even from the depths of the curse's magic.
In the final confrontation, the prince returned to the heart of the king’s court, where his father's throne awaited him. There, the prince faced not only the shadow but his own forgotten family—his brothers, his father—who had no memory of the bond they once shared. To break the curse, the prince had to confront his deepest fears: the fear of being unworthy, of being lost to time, and of never being loved again.
With the power of his pure heart and the strength of his lineage, the prince broke the curse, restoring his memories and returning his name to the hearts of those who had forgotten him. His family, though initially stunned, embraced him once more. The shadow that had plagued the kingdom vanished, and the realm was saved.
But the prince's journey did not end with his return. The prince had grown, not just in power but in wisdom. He understood now that his true legacy was not in ruling over others but in guiding them, ensuring that no one would ever be forgotten again. And so, the Forgotten Prince became a legend in his own right, not as a king, but as the protector of memories, the keeper of lost souls, and the prince who had defied fate itself.
And so, the kingdom flourished once more, under the watchful eyes of a prince who was no longer forgotten. And he lived happily ever after.
