UNL Cities & Areas

Where Seattle has eleven districts, the United Netherlands have ten important cities, and a whole bunch more that nobody cares about. Each place has its own culture, local government, even different security companies. If you go somewhere, you had best know at least the basics. And if you need more than that, we are always selling.

The Main Cities

Europort

Political and economical capital of the country, this is where to find all the movers and shakers. An automated harbor where manual labor exists mostly to support the smuggling business, entire corporate neighborhoods, and royal palaces, the city has it all.

Amsterdam

A city not only divided between its organized crime organizations, but currently even between three different security corps. But make no mistake, the city is still a criminal hive. The corps are merely there to get in on the pie, while pretending they are upright citizens.

Riverplex

A patchwork blanket of former cities and towns that have combined into an abomination. The city is located on the road from Europort to Rhein-Ruhr. From here, trains and trucks spread across the country, connecting all the places that produce the goods the country needs.

Antwerp

City of diamonds and once a rival to the great Europort, and the homebase of security corp Sinjoor Inc. The Albanian mob and the Vory have been fighting over control of the city for more than a quarter of a century. From here, smuggled ware and imported crooks spread fast.

Other Big Cities

Brugge

Once and now once more the capital of Flanders, this harbor city is famous for its looks. It has been repaired to resemble its old glory, making it a more beautiful canal city than the decayed Amsterdam.

Gent

A relatively large port city, connected to the Schelde through a lengthy canal. Smugglers that dare not fight over control of Antwerp or Brugge, build their bases here instead.

Eindhoven

With a long history of technological advances, it is no wonder that even now, Eindhoven still stands as center of innovation in the UNL. Megacorps flock here for their research labs.

Utrecht

Once the transportation center of the country, the city partially lost this position when the Black Tide greatly damaged all the cities north from it. Though it still is used by those avoiding the EuroRoutes.

Zwolle

The gateway to the north of the country, this city is beloved by smugglers that dare traverse the Toxic Wastelands. Every day, corporate cargo trains bring goods south to Riverplex.

Groningen

A drowned city destroyed by the Black Tide. It now solely houses one of the larger Arkoblocks of Proteus. Rumors have it that Proteus does inhuman experiments on maritime critters here.

Important Areas

Toxic Wastelands

Multiple provinces were washed away by the Black Tide, leaving these drowned lands covered with toxic sludge. These Toxic Wastelands are home to plenty of toxic critters, while magic goes absolutely haywire in this region. Only a few are brave enough to live here. Or perhaps they simply are too dumb to be able to leave.

Frisia

Frisia was a country in a country, and some of its residents refuse to abandon their homelands. They live on artificial mounds or at slightly-reclaimed city centers that barely rise above the water. The locals tend to make a living through smuggling and piracy, though they also farm and fish wherever they can.

The Veluwe

Once a national park that required constant culling of its boar population, economical crisises meant this place was no longer maintained. The wildlife is a complete mess and breaks out during bad winters, while only a few fortified settlements manage to barely on.

Zeeland

The only drowned province that isn't a toxic nightmare now. Instead, most of it simply is underwater. Old villages make the place a real nightmare to navigate by boat, so only brave smugglers dare traverse the area, especially at night and during low tides.
