Kantu
Kantu is the "Brother of the Mountain", a lesser deity of the Uferbrech goblins across the archipelago. He is most often depicted as a strong but elderly goblin man with full beard, wearing ragged overalls and bearing an oil lamp and mining tools. It is said he wanders the twisted catacombs beneath the mountain ranges, and offers guidance and protection to those who lose their way in the darkness.
The creature's gelatinous body finally slumped into motionless. The echoes of its dying squeel reverberating through the tunnels.
Zeli dragged herself away from it, wiping way the thick acrid ooze from her arms in disgust. The fumes from where she had burnt it filled her nostrils, setting her eyes watering. She glanced across at Nock, his own eyes wide in fear. He looked down at the make-shift torch she held in her hand just as it began to sputter.
"Is that our last?" he asked softly as it spat a few final sparks and they were plunged into darkness. The only sound their own ragged breathing.
She nodded. She knew he couldn't see her. She knew she didn't need to tell him. Two days from the surface and all their torches used up in fighting off these abominations that kept slithering out of the cracks in the rocks. It was only a matter of time now.
The quiet stretched on for what could have been mere moments, or the unseen moons far above may have finally reached Kofa for all she knew.
She could hear Nock whispering softly to himself, over and over: "Na ra kura. Na ra kura."
And also darkness.
Zeli let the tears from her eyes flow silently down her cheeks. It couldn't end this way. Not here. Not like this. So far from home. So far from where they needed to be.
A sob excaped her lips.
"No need for that." a voice barked from the darkness, as a light flared. Bright enough to blind her as much as the darkness it vanquished.
"Stone protect!" the voice laughed like gravel spilling down a cavern wall, "What brings you two down here?"
Divine Domains
He is the deity of the mountains, guardian of the secrets and guide to those who become lost within their depths. Kantu personfies the strength and resilience of rock, metals and gemstones. He is the patron of those of the Uferbrech goblins who seek to mine for the mountain's resources.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Kantu's lantern and pickaxe are both used as symbols by goblins who pay him respect. The pickaxe symbolises his strength and role as protector, while the lantern his role as guide. Goblin miners will often wear small trinkets carved from stone, or wrought from metals, shaped into these items around their neck for luck.
Tenets of Faith
To respect the strength and beauty of the earth and its gifts.
Kantu's followers know that when resources are taken from the earth, they must be used for good purpose, and never in excess. Metals and gemstones mined are to be used for the creation of useful tools, and beautiful arts and crafts. Never for the purpose of aggression, or for the hoarding of wealth. To take for the purpose of making weapons or armor, these must only be used for the protection of people, and there are many rites that Goblins must partake of to promise to Kantu that this remain true. It is believed that if metals granted by Kantu are used to harm the innocent, then the bearers will become cursed with weakness or blindness, and the protection of Kantu taken from them. Some locations within the mountains are seen as sacred. These may be exceptionally large veins of metals, orlarge nodes of crystals and gems. Traditionally, goblins miners protect these places when they are discovered, and will carve underground temples and shrines around these to honour Kantu and accentuate the beauty of the natural discoveries. To remove these sacred items is seen as the worst of crimes against the Brother of the Mountain.
To ensure the secrets of the ancients that are buried are kept forgotten.
Beneath the mountains there are remnants of the lost cities of the ancients, buried during The Destruction by the wrath of Wala-Kofa. These are seen as places of ancient evil that are not to be disturbed. It is the responsibility of all goblins to assist Kantu in keeping these places hidden from outsiders. To protect and guide the innocent to safe paths.
When people are lost or hurt within the twisted catacombs and caverns beneath the mountains, it is the responsibility of all goblins to help them find safety unless they are there for nefarious reasons. Kantu himself is believed to appear to those in need beneath the mountain, and offer guidance and aid. He will appear from the gloom, lantern in hand, offer food, company and lead people to safety. Sometimes, those lost may simply see the light of his lamp bobbing ahead, and if followed it will lead them to safety.Equally, however, these disembodied lights may lead those with selfish hearts to their doom.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
An old goblin, with a wild white beard. His wiry arms have a strength which belies his stature. He walks bare foot, with a shuffle, hunched over and using his pick axe as a walking stick, while holding his lantern in front of him. He wears old dusty overalls made from a rough fabric. Atop his head he wears a simple cap of iron, dented and pitted with age.
Those with respect for the mountain in their hearts will be greeted with a gentle smile, revealing greypebble-like teeth. His eyes squinting in mirth.
Those who steal from the mountain, or whose intentions are selfish or aggressive will see his eyes burn with lava, and feel the earth quake as he come upon them in the dark.

Special abilities
It is said Kantu can move through the very rocks of the mountain as if they were water. He can call down avalanches, and cause the earth to split asunder and swallow those he punishes. He can call up the very molten blood of the earth and turn flesh to stone.
But also, he can mould the rock as he see fits, revealling paths before those he helps, building bridges across chasms and tunnels through impasaable places.

Mental characteristics
Personal history
With all his powers, Kantu is a lesser deity of the Uferbrech Goblins, but one that survived the division of their goddess Wala-Kofa. and the wrath that Kofa brought upon the world. The very earth was rearranged by her, and kantu's mountains still bear the scars of it. He bears no ill-will to either Wala or Kofa, but sees his role as protector of the goblinkin as paramount.
During the invasion of Uferbrech by the Protectorates, and after the Fall of Tokaru, Kantu provided paths and refuge through and beneath the mountains as the survivors fled. He confounded their pursuers, and protected the Tokari from the dangers beneath the mountains for many cycles of the moons. It was the stirring of Okudi, the Devourer, brought on by the early explorations and mining activities of Ackron Der Kustos' forces that finally forced him to push the Tokari from their mountain refuge and further south to Talon's Reach where many finally fled to other islands across the archipelgo.
Kantu is allied to both Wala and Kofa, and a supporter of Wala's Vigil. He will often reveal himself to Spiritseers when approached or needed within his domain. He does not travel beyond the bounds of the mountains, and will not leave the safety of rock behind.
