Forfarens

The Forfarens are a sapient telepathic prototaxian species native to the moon of Geastra.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Forfarens have bilateral symmetry, with one head, two arms, and eight legs. Their skin is smooth and comes in a variety of colors. They are bioluminescent and have three glowing eyes, but no nose or mouth.

Genetics and Reproduction

Every 140 standard days, a forfaren grows flowers on the top of their head. These flowers contain either male or female reproductive, and their appearance seems to vary from forfaren to forfaren. One forfaren can also either have all male flowers, all female flowers, or a mix of both. These flowers can then be fertilized by local pollinators. After 15 standard days, the flowers wilt and die, exposing seeds if any of them have been fertilized.   The seeds are then planted in the ground to grow, a process which takes about 90 standard days. Forfaren young are not raised by their parents, but by elderly forfarens in groups called "nurseries".

Dietary Needs and Habits

Forfarens are one of two known sentient species (besides Speluvi ) that consume organic matter by rapidly breaking it down and absorbing the nutrients outside of a “traditional” digestive system. However, it is much more noticeable with Forfarens than with Speluvi due to the fact Fofarens can do this by simply touching their food with a limb.   Myth: A forfaren can kill someone by draining their energy
Truth: Most living beings have too much energy for a Forfaren absorbing their energy to do much damage (the expectations being creatures of size class 4 and below). While theoretically someone could die to this, it would take days or even weeks for that much energy to be absorbed. There are much easier ways to kill someone then that.
