FFM10: Garden Gods

"What are you doing?" Xavier was new to his job as Merci's body guard, and he was convinced the girl was beyond strange. She was dressed in some sort of fabric that made the air around her shimmer in ways he was unsure about.

It gave him the taste of bile and copper pennies in his mouth. Needless to say, Xavier was not a fan.

"Building my alter." She said simply, settling moss against newly placed rocks. She whispered something to them, words barely audible. Xavier could not be sure, it may have been a threat, it may have been a spell, it sounded more like a request than anything.

"What could you possibly need an alter for?"

"It's time for the annual sacrifice to the garden gods." She said simply. "The petunias are looking peaky, and the wisteria is beginning to wilt."

"Garden gods- like what, gnomes?" He kicked the dirt.

"Excuse you," She hissed. "Gnomes are not garden gods."

He did not know how to respond to this, so he didn't. She threw a rock at him.

"Now pay your respects, Mister." She gave him a very pointed look, and Xavier did not see the sixteen year old he was protecting. "If you don't, my plants are gonna die and you're gonna be right behind them."
