Organization of the Order.

Traditionally the Order is broken up into ten units known as shields. Each unit is roughly around one thousand knights. Of these knights, There is always a Knight-commander, and two Knight-Illutari who act as the command structure for the shield. There are roughly one hundred Knight-Scuttari per shield. While the rest of the shield is composted of Knights, Knight-errant, in some shields initiates.   The Silver Jusitcars: Primarily composed of Paladins and Clerics. The Silver Justicars are a storied unit having always been the first to volunteer. Whether it be to charge, or to protect a withdraw. They possess few initiates chosen if they are devout and pious.   The Stalwart Band: Known for their heavy armor, stoic dispositions and their training in siege warfare. They possess many builders and engineers who help maintain and protect the walls of the fortress. They accept a few initiates every so often if they possess the engineering know how to get started.   The Vermilion Knights: The Vermilion knights are aptly named. They have often and historically found themselves in the thickest of the orders battles. Their armor and clothing stained with blood. They earned the moniker and are often the unit with the most kills, and at times the most causalities. They are a dour lot whom often is looked upon by newer members of the order with some worry that might enjoy this reputation. They do not take Initiates.   The Canutus Legion: Smiths, forgemasters, and as such perhaps some of the best armed in the order. The Canutus legion are named for their ash and soot covered clothing. They also work on outfitting much of the order. Though they are often lightly armored by comparison to their fellow knights. They have proven their capability as fast reaction soldiers, able to flank and respond to problem spots in battle swiftly. They will on occasion take initiates as apprentices.   The Lán sè Guard: Founded by an exile from Vallonde, they are perhaps the most magically apt of the Order. Many of the orders wizards, sorcerers, and its few warlocks find themselves gathering to this unit. In their small university they gather knowledge, history, and practice magics to protect Sunshield. Among their numbers are Shield magi. Powerful wizards who are placed as sentinels within several large towers which amplify their magic to enhance and strengthen the walls durability. They will only take full fledged knights into their unit.   The Valewatch: The knights of the Valewatch are the most active during 'peacetime'. Their knights are often scouting out their enemies, and patrolling the mountains to the north and south. They possess many smaller outposts within the mountain ranges to scout from. Their numbers are sometimes larger then the other shields as they require the extra knights to maintain their network for information. They only take Knight-Errants.   The Iron Knights: Perhaps the most traditional of the order. The Iron Knights are old and prestigious. With lance and on horseback they are known for their fierce charges. Many noble blooded individuals fill their ranks. However if one shows skill on horseback and the bravery to charge despite the odds. They will accept a non-noble. They do not take Initiates, and often start with Knight-Errants.   The Circle of Dusk: Druidic and those of a more quiet disposition fill this unit. Like the Valewatch are very active during peacetime. Setting up traps, ambushes, assassinating powerful foes and to weaken the great enemies before they arrive. They are very picky on whom they choose. They will not take initiates.   The Knights of the Bear: Bold, brash, and loud. The knights of the Bear are perhaps the most rowdy of their order. Despite this though, their symbol is not feared but welcomed by many locals as they are often well meaning, and friendly despite their lack of volume control. They possess lofty ideals often hearkening back to their founder, Var Uruns. A knight not known for his glories of combat, but for his dedication to the goals of the order in protecting the innocent. They possess many Initiates in their ranks.   The New Guard: Aptly named, the new guard is perhaps the most 'green' of the order. It possesses more initiates within their ranks then any other. Having usually just enough knights to train and mentor the initiates of the order. Within the New Guard, they are taught and prepared for the many facets of life and struggle in the order. Whether it be learning about the various foes that will assail them, or on how to solve the more mundane conundrums. It is here many find themselves before either opting to transfer to one of the more specific branches of the order. Though some of those who last long enough opt to remain and to help teach the new generations who might follow them.
